Job Description
 

Gilead Sciences, Inc. is a research-based biopharmaceutical company headquartered in Foster City, California, that discovers, develops and commercializes innovative medicines in areas of unmet medical need. With each new discovery and investigational drug candidate, we seek to improve the care of patients living with life-threatening diseases around the world. Gilead’s therapeutic areas of focus include HIV, liver diseases, serious respiratory and cardiovascular conditions, cancer and inflammation.

The Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) group at Gilead Sciences is seeking a candidate for the position of Senior Research Scientist with the primary responsibility to serve as a modeling and simulations DMPK scientist supporting biologics discovery and development project teams.

Specific Responsibilities:

The primary responsibility of this Biologics DMPK Senior Scientist position is the design, execution and interpretation of the quantitative pharmacology strategies informing the development of large molecule drug candidates.  The scientist would also serve as a DMPK project representative supporting biologics discovery and clinical development programs including business development opportunities. 

Essential Duties and Job Responsibilities:

  • Serve on project teams at various stages of discovery and development as a subject matter expert for DMPK Biologics, providing PK or PK/PD input to the design of nonclinical PK, toxicology, or pharmacology studies.

  • As a DMPK project representative a candidate will lead the DMPK strategy for programs at various stages of drug discovery/development in collaboration with an inter-disciplinary team.

  • Perform hands-on devising, implementation and interpretation of quantitative strategies to inform the design and translation of the PK-PD properties of biologic therapeutics from early stages of preclinical development to the design of first in human studies.

Knowledge, Experience and Skills:

  • PhD with 2-5 years of industry experience, MS degree with 8+ years, or BS degree with 10+ years in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical or Biomedical Engineering or related field with focus on mechanistic PK-PD modeling and/ or quantitative pharmacology analyses and/or industry experience in large molecule/biologics discovery and development.

  • Candidates must have solid grasp of the fundamentals of Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics principles and demonstrated experience using mathematical modeling tools to capture the behavior of in vitro/in vivo pharmacological systems and leveraging these to answer scientific inquiries. 

  • Hands-on experience in the implementation of PK and PK-PD modeling analysis using software systems such as Phoenix/WinNonlin, ADAPT, MATLAB/Simbiology, R, Monolix or similar is required.

  • Applicant must demonstrate excellent verbal and technical communication, independent scientific thinking, with the ability to interpret results, determine next steps and present data to project teams and senior management.


 

The salary range for this position is: $165,580.00 - $214,280.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This
