About the Division of Medical Oncology 

The Division of Oncology at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) is a dynamic and expanding program within the Department of Medicine, dedicated to excellence in patient care, research, and education.  

Faculty provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient cancer care across UTMB’s four hospitals – Galveston, League City, Clear Lake, and Angleton Danbury – offering advanced diagnostic and therapeutic services, multidisciplinary management of complex malignancies, and participation in innovative clinical trials. 

The Division is deeply committed to advancing cancer care through research, education, and collaboration, working closely with surgical, radiation, and palliative care teams to deliver compassionate, patient-centered treatment tailored to each individual’s needs. 

Our ACGME-accredited Medical Oncology Fellowship Program trains nine fellows across three years, offering a comprehensive and rigorous curriculum supported by dedicated faculty mentors and a wide range of clinical and research experiences. The Division also plays an active role in medical student and resident education, contributing significantly to UTMB’s academic and training missions. 

 

Position Summary 

UTMB is seeking a full-time physician at the rank of Associate Professor of Clinical Practice within the Division of Medical Oncology. This position emphasizes high-quality clinical cancer care, active participation in teaching, and engagement in the academic mission of the department. The successful candidate will join a team of faculty dedicated to delivering exceptional oncology care, advancing clinical education, and participating in scholarly, quality improvement, and research initiatives. 

 

Essential Responsibilities 

  • Provide comprehensive outpatient and/or inpatient oncology care, including management of solid tumors, hematologic malignancies, and supportive oncology care. 
  • Participate in chemotherapy administration, clinical trials, and multidisciplinary tumor boards. 
  • Supervise and teach medical students, residents, and fellows in both clinical and didactic oncology settings. 
  • Engage in departmental and divisional quality improvement, patient safety, and evidence-based practice initiatives. 
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—including surgery, radiation oncology, radiology, pathology, and palliative care—for optimal patient outcomes. 
  • Contribute to curriculum development, clinical skills training, and oncology-focused academic programs. 

 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school. 
  • Board certified or board eligible in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology. 
  • Eligible for medical licensure in the State of Texas.
