About the Role:
As Senior Cloud Engineer you will be a key member of the Cloud Engineering team. You will play a critical role in building Planet’s next generation Cloud infrastructure.
This position will play a lead role in Planet’s mult-cloud network strategy. Focused on cloud networking in GCP and AWS as well as Cloud to on-prem datacenter networking. You will work closely with fellow Corpeng team members and other cross-functional teams in an Agile development environment to ensure the reliability, security, and scalability of our network.
This is a full-time, hybrid role which will require you to work in our San Francisco HQ 3 days per week.
Impact You'll Own:
- Work with key stakeholders to design, implement, and manage complex network solutions for our data centers and cloud environments (AWS and GCP)
- Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for network automation and provisioning
- Implement and maintain network security best practices
- Document network designs, configurations, and procedures
- Configure and manage network devices, including routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers
- Participate in on-call rotations
What You Bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
- 6+ years of experience in network engineering
- Extensive experience with AWS and GCP cloud networking - VPCs, Route Tables, Security Groups, NACLs, etc.
- Experience with application networking requirements - Load Balancers, HA-Proxy, Nginx, etc.
- Experience using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform (preferred), Ansible or Crossplane
- Experience working in an Agile development environment
- Advanced understanding of networking protocols and technologies (BGP, TCP/IP, routing, switching, VPNs, etc.)
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
What Makes You Stand Out:
- Experience with network monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, etc.)
- Experience with data center network design and build-outs
- Experience with Kubernetes networking - GKE
- Relevant certifications (AWS Certified Networking - Specialty, etc.)
- Experience configuring and managing network equipment, including:
- Juniper switches
- VyOS
- Aruba wireless and switching solutions
- Ubiquiti UniFi equipment
