Data Science AI&I Intern (PHD degree level) - On-site

Functions as an artificial intelligence and informatics researcher by applying data science, artificial intelligence and informatics, and machine learning expertise to the design, implementation, analysis, interpretations, and reporting of research, clinical and administrative studies.

Additional tasks include, but are not limited to:

• Work with the team to develop and evaluate reinforcement learning models for navigation and decision-making in visually complex environments.
• Collaborate with research team members to refine model performance and integrate components into larger systems.

This position requires the employee to work onsite at the location which requires living within driving distance of main campus in Rochester, Minnesota.

Working towards a PhD degree in data science, computer science, mathematics/statistics, informatics, computer engineering, or related field.  Research experience in artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science or related field preferred. Must have excellent analytical and problem-solving expertise, along with exceptional written and oral communication skills.   Must be highly motived, willing to learn, and demonstrate initiative in assigned tasks.

Additional Preferred Qualifications: 

• Experience with reinforcement learning on visual data or visual game environments
• Strong programming skills in Python
• Familiarity with custom RL environments or OpenAI Gym

• Practical experience using PyTorch
