Maintenance Technician

 

Job Summary:

To ensure that the facility and equipment are maintained and/or repaired in an orderly and quality fashion to keep the plant operating productively.  To perform all electrical and mechanical duties as assigned.

 

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Complete all preventative, scheduled and emergency maintenance and repair work to facilities and equipment as required
• Perform safety measures in the design and installation of equipment
• Follow up on and study recurring facility-oriented failures to find solutions
• Maintain an inventory of supplies and materials necessary for the operation of the building and manufacturing
• Understand and maintain company safety policies
• Identify workplace hazards, which exist or could develop and correct problems
• Perform work to ensure procedures are within safety and governmental compliance
• Inform co-workers and employees of precautions and equipment
• Accurately record all repairs and maintenance performed in a repairs and maintenance log

 

Basic Qualifications:

• High School diploma or GED required

• Good communication skills
• Good troubleshooting skills
• Good mechanical and electrical skills

 

Desired Skills and Abilities:

• 2-3 years mechanical and electrical technician experience

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift 60lbs. on a regular basis
• Willing to work all shifts

• Mandatory hearing protection while in the production area of the plant

• Walking: Must be able to walk as some tasks require walking
• Standing: Must be able to stand on a concrete floor, sometimes covered with rubber mats, up to 9 hours/day, 3 to 4 days per week, for most tasks
• Lifting/Carrying: Must be able to occasionally lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lbs. at waist level
• Pushing/Pulling: Must be able to occasionally push/pull skids of paper, weighing over 100 lbs., with hand lift trucks on a concrete floor
• Bending/Twisting: Must be able to bend at the waist, flexing knees, and twist body to perform such tasks as working in folder, and print units
• Climbing: Must be able to climb in, out and around equipment (such as ladder on folder and on printing units) as needed to perform various tasks
• Kneeling: Must be able to perform various tasks in a kneeling position for various lengths of time
• Grasping/Reaching: Must be able to reach for and grasp items of varying thickness and weighing up to 50 lbs. on an occasional basis with fingers and hands. Also requires flexing and bending of arms and wrists.
• Sitting: Some tasks allow for sitting - usually not for more than one hour/day

The grant will fund a next-level initiative designed to “fast-track” 40 employees into skilled press and binder roles within an accelerated timeline of approximately 12 months. Traditionally, these career paths take four to six years to complete. With this new program, participants will achieve their goals in roughly one year, significantly reducing the time required to gain advanced skills and certifications.
