SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
In this critical role, you'll develop and manage the Electric Traction Department’s planned outage processes, performing an operational planning analysis on all outage requests prior to being approved to ensure Amtrak’s 25 Hz transmission system’s integrity, stability and configuration is maintained. You’ll collaborate closely with IMCS & the Capital Delivery team to prioritize and maximize planned outage windows to ensure project deliverables are met. This position manages and provides technical direction to a 24/7 staff of Load Dispatchers who monitor and regulate power demand for the 25 Hz traction power network for the safety of operations, resources, the configuration and switching of the converter stations, transmission, and substation system components. This position has an opportunity to restructure and contribute to the future of our planned outage processes for the success of the Electric Traction Department and Amtrak.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Provides oversight and guidance to Load Dispatcher personnel to ensure the Electric Traction network is operated in a safe, economical, and reliable manner.
• Lead in creating, developing, and managing the Electric Traction Department’s planned outage processes to meet project deliverable and construction schedules.
• Provide root cause analysis and corrective actions on Electric Traction system outages and failures.
• Coordinate Electric Traction functions and planned outages within, and other departments as required.
• Manage agreement covered Load Dispatcher employees in a 24-hour 7 days a week operation.
• Develop and provide Load Dispatchers with real time operational simulation drills to enhance their skills in system restoration for unplanned outages.
• Respond to abnormal system conditions and problems, to minimize the impact to the Electric Traction power system and train operations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor Degree or related field, or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Experience in power system operations.
• 10 years of experience in operations and maintenance of electrical facilities, electrical regulations, or dispatching of power.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Thorough working knowledge Electric Traction power operation and system components.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, collaborative, and relationship building skills with demonstrated experience both within and outside an organization.
• Demonstrated experience in system operations of Electric Traction facilities.
• Demonstrated management experience in a matrix organization.
• Demonstrated operational planning experience.
• Attention to detail and completeness.
• Must be able to motivate others and drive for results.
• Must be able to take a lead role in assignments and deliverables.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• 15 years of experience in the operations and maintenance of electrical facilities, electrical regulations, or dispatching of power.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
• Position requires work in a 24 hour 7 days a week operation
• Work hours vary day-to-day and week-to-week as required.
• High mental demand for resolving critical issues that arise.
COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
PAY TRANSPARENCY:
The salary/hourly range is $115,000-$126,969. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, internal equity, etc. Depending on an emplo
