Environmental Health and Safety Intern

OVERVIEW

Perfetti Van Melle - a global confectionary company and makers of great product brands such as Airheads and Mentos- is seeking an enthusiastic college student for an internship or co-op with our Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) team. This internship/co-op will be based in our Erlanger, KY facility (near the Cincinnati /CVG airport) with an expectation of a minimum of 40 work hours per week. This internship is for the Fall 2024, with an immediate start and the possibility of extension or rotation 

WHAT YOU WILL DO

As an HSE Intern, you will support the Health, Safety, and Environment department in implementing and maintaining HSE policies and programs. You will assist in conducting safety inspections and trainings, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal HSE regulations. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

· Help ensure the plant’s operations comply with all local, state, and federal health, safety, and environmental regulations, with a focus on food safety standards. 

· Assist with Permit to Work (PTW) and contractor management. 

· Help ensure the plant’s operations comply with all local, state, and federal health, safety, and environmental regulations, with a focus on food safety standards. 

· Participate in regular safety inspections and audits of manufacturing processes, machinery, and workplace practices to identify potential hazards. 

· Assist in investigating workplace incidents and near-misses, focusing on root cause analysis and preventive measures. 

· Support the organization and delivery of HSE training sessions to employees, emphasizing food safety, personal protective equipment (PPE), and emergency response. 

· Contribute to sustainability projects, focusing on waste reduction, energy efficiency, and sustainable sourcing within the confectionary manufacturing process. 

· Prepare and maintain accurate HSE documentation, including incident reports, audit results, and compliance checks. 

· Assist with other duties as needed.

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

• Students pursuing degrees in Health & Safety or Human Resource is preferred. 
• Basic to intermediate knowledge of OSHA and EPA requirements is preferred.
• Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong communicator with an emphasis on problem solving.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of handling sensitive matters with discretion. 
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. 
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
