New Graduates 

New registered nurse (RN) graduates benefit from a comprehensive, personalized support system. All RNs in their first nursing role are invited to participate in a Nurse Residency Program alongside nursing orientation. The program provides socialization and support, enhances clinical judgment, and promotes professional development. 

The Gastroenterology/ Endoscopy department with ASC is a 12-bed unit. Our nurses are trained to assess, prepare, and recover patients for scheduled endoscopic procedures for adults to geriatric population. Our team works to aid in preparation and recovery for our patients. 

The Arnett Surgery Center consists of 10 pre-op rooms, 6 PACU bays, and 10 recovery rooms. Our nurses assess and prepare patients for scheduled surgery as well as assess and recover post-surgical patients. Our team cares for patients that consist of: general, neurosurgery, orthopedic, OB/gyn, urology, ENT, podiatry, dental, cosmetics, and ophthalmology. 

Nursing skills gained:

  • Starting IV
  • Assessing and monitoring vital signs 
  • Hanging antibiotics
  • Drawing labs
  • Assessing and treating post-operative pain and nausea
  • Assessing blood sugar
  • Focused assessments on all pre-op patients
  • Focuses assessments on all post-surgical patients
  • Administering respiratory treatments 
  • Assisting anesthesia with post-operative peripheral nerve blocks
  • Providing appropriate discharge instructions/education to patients and families

  • Certified Nurses 
  • Monthly continuing education opportunities (mock-codes-adult and pediatric, rapid sequence intubation, etc) 
  • BLS, PALS, ACLS certified 
  • Magnet Certified facility

  • Teaching unit-multiple capstone nursing students

Qualifications 

  • Requires Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) preferred. 
  • Requires current state of Indiana license as Registered Nurse. 
    • Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing       program. 
  • Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA. 
    • Other Advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
