Summary:
The STEM Partnerships Assistant – FWS student position will work closely with the Director of STEM Partnerships and Innovation and the Program Manager (NASA DC Space Grant Consortium & Integrated Space Science and Technology) to support faculty, staff, and students in STEM departments at American University. In order to aid them in broadening participation in these fields and identifying innovative strategies for teaching, research, and learning.
Essential Functions:
Newsletter Management: (1) Assist with curating and creating the bi-weekly STEM newsletter. (2) Gather relevant STEM content and opportunities for publication.
Broaden Access to STEM Opportunities: (1) Research and advertise STEM-related internship opportunities for students. (2) Maintain the “STEM Research Opportunities” document. (3) Support faculty, staff, and students in STEM departments. (4) Aid in broadening participation in STEM programs and research on campus. (5) Assist with tracking and organizing student participant data, such as event sign-in sheets.
Administrative Tasks: (1) Assist in organizing and coordinating academic events, seminars, or workshops. (2) Create graphics and promotional materials for STEM programming. (3) Promote events to relevant audiences, including maintaining the STEM at AU Instagram Page. (4) Process and analyze event attendee feedback.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
Part-time.
Student.
8 hours per week.
Salary Range:
$17.95 per hour.
Required Education and Experience:
Must have an FWS award for the current academic year.
Willingness to learn about the STEM student and faculty experience at AU.
Ability to work independently.
Comfort working or willingness to learn PowerPoint, Canva, and email marketing software.
Comfort working or willingness to learn data management in Excel and Qualtrics.
Good academic standing with a strong GPA.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with students, faculty, and staff.
Effective organizational and time management skills.
Ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously.
