MICROBIOLOGY TECHNICIAN - LABORATORY

Microbiology Technician, FT/evening Shift position in the laboratory at Meadville Medical Center.  This position operates during the evening hours, Monday through Friday.

SUMMARY

Primarily responsible for performing laboratory tests in an assigned laboratory section, following approved procedures.  Additional tasks may apply, but are not limited to order entry, analytical processing, secretarial, reporting, answering phone calls. 

MINIMUM EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory, chemical, physical or biological required; OR associate degree in chemical, physical, or biological science or medical laboratory or equivalent education and training as required by 42CFR493.1489(b). Certification with ASCP, AMT, or one of the national registering bodies is either pending upon completion of a NAACLS approved laboratory course and/or scheduled preferred.
Laboratory training including either completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by the ABHES, NAACLS, or other organization approved by HHS, OR at least three months documented laboratory training in each specialty in which the individual performs high complexity testing.
Clinical Microbiology experience is preferred.
Must be able to communicate and effectively exchange information with laboratory staff, nursing staff, physicians, physician office staff, patients, patient’s families, other customers, and guests.
Requires judgment including prioritizing tasks according to medical urgency, efficiency, and good guest relations skills.
