Job Description
AECOM has 2 positions available for Outreach Coordinators for our Client's Safe Routes to School Program. In this position, the Outreach Coordinator will be a member of the Safe Routes to School outreach team, a program of the Massachusetts Department of Transportation. This is a hybrid position, and you will be expected to work out of the downtown Boston office when not visiting partner locations (office frequency is determined by your manager).
- One of the positions is responsible the Metro North / North Shore region of Massachusetts. but is based out of the downtown Boston, MA, office.
- The second position is responsible the Metro South / South Shore region of Massachusetts. but is based out of the downtown Boston, MA, office.
Safe Routes to School works with schools, communities, students, and families to increase biking and walking among elementary, middle, and high school students in the Commonwealth. We promote a collaborative, community-focused approach that fosters mutual partnerships between advocacy groups, law enforcement, education leaders, and public health departments that all work together to promote safer routes for elementary, middle, and high school students to get to school.
As a Safe Routes to School Outreach Coordinator, you will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with public elementary, middle, and high schools along with municipal and community stakeholders within the Metro North / North Shore region of Massachusetts. You will assist partner schools and communities with the implementation of school-based travel options for elementary, middle school, and high school students. You will work in a fast-paced team environment following an outreach model with goals and performance metrics.
In this role the person performs a range of outreach, transportation, and marketing tasks aimed at enhancing opportunities for Massachusetts elementary, middle, and high school students to utilize healthy, active means of transportation, with a primary focus on walking and cycling to/from school. Develop, promote, and/or implement a range of school-based programs with the goal to teach and inspire children to start walking and bicycling more often to and from school, improving their physical health, safety, and community.
The responsibilities include, but may not be limited to, the following:
- Maintain outreach responsibilities in the North / Northeast region of Massachusetts through activities that include but are not limited to:
- Developing successful partnerships with existing and new partner schools and their stakeholders.
- Preparing clear/concise writing of presentations/reports and creating/maintaining interpersonal communication with community stakeholders
- Energetic, and articulate individual who has the communication skills and persuasiveness necessary to influence, motivate, and inform schools and families in the use of travel options statewide
- Deepening existing SRTS partner relationships through frequent contact and follow-up meetings, tracking program implementation and student participation.
- Promoting bicycling and walking for school trips. Educating parents/guardians, students, school personnel, and community representatives on the benefits of these modes, as opposed to family drop-off/pick-up of students.
- Providing customized assistance as schools implement Safe Routes education, encouragement, engagement, and evaluation activities.
- Assisting with school- and community-based SRTS plans and guiding the implementation of walking and cycling programs.
- Increasing participation rates and program awareness among parents/guardians, students and stakeholders at school partner locations.
