About the role

Description

The Department of Educational Studies at Knox College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning Fall 2022.  We are seeking a colleague with experience in working with elementary and/or secondary school aged children as well as experience working with diverse communities of learners. 

The Department is particularly interested in creative, energetic teachers of undergraduate students who will contribute to equity within our community through engaging instruction and research. Candidates should have experience working with diverse populations of students and possess a commitment to teach successfully in a multicultural environment. The successful candidate will model, teach, and promote the department’s philosophy to help students become critical and transformative educators for social justice. We are especially looking for someone with a teaching and research background in Educational Psychology and/or Literacy Education. Additional areas of interest include math education, science education, elementary pedagogy, emergent bilingual youth, and assessment. 

The position includes a six-course teaching load on a 2-per-term basis in a trimester calendar. Responsibilities include teaching lower and upper level courses in the candidate’s area of expertise, ongoing scholarly contributions in the candidate’s area, supervision of student teaching, academic advising, supervision of undergraduate research projects, and contribution to departmental initiatives.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: 

  • Ph.D. in education or closely related field is expected at time of appointment; exceptional ABD candidates will be considered.

  • At least three years teaching experience in K-12 schools (required only for those candidates who would teach curriculum and methods courses)

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience working with diverse populations.

  • Experience teaching undergraduates as the instructor of record.

  • Experience supervising student teachers.

  • Record of scholarly engagement and achievement commensurate with experience.

  • Ability to teach courses in multiple education sub-fields, e.g., educational psychology and elementary literacy methods.
