Intern - Year Round (Cyber Advanced Analysis Team)

The Cyber Advanced Analysis Team (CAAT) in Navy Federal’s Information Security Division’s Automation and Special Projects group identifies, tracks and mitigates cyber threats to Navy Federal Credit Union Members. Systemic and persistent threats to Navy Federal Members include but are not limited to social engineering, fraud schemes and identity theft. CAAT collaborates with additional teams across Navy Federal to innovate and automate protections against these threats.
The Year Round Intern will:
• Triage and investigate daily tactical intelligence referrals of fraud images through internal case management systems
• Perform ad-hoc open-source intelligence research and investigations using publicly available platforms like the open internet, social media, or deep and dark web to support internal stakeholder research requests
• Create written CAAT Intelligence Reports and products using established report templates and style guides
• Conduct open-source intelligence research and discovery to identify new fraud trends
• Identify and monitor online communities of interest to augment CAAT intelligence sources and collection capabilities

• Retrieve, analyze, and validate open-source information for the purpose of protecting Navy Federal Members
• Analyze open source, deep and dark web or internal-to-NFCU member data to refer cases to Fraud
• Understand, predict and identify opportunities to improve member security
• Craft finished, analytical, written intelligence products and to convey findings, analysis, and key concepts to decisionmakers and executives
• Present intelligence products to peers and management up to and including senior executives
• Leverage analytical tradecraft, operational security, and open-source intelligence techniques to support digital investigations
• Currently pursuing a graduate degree in Journalism, Information Studies, Computer Forensics, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or other related degree
• Familiarity with the concepts of social engineering, phishing, credential harvesting or other threat intelligence relevant to financial institutions
• Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
• Effective research, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Effective skill maintaining accuracy with attention to detail and meeting deadlines
• Ability to exercise initiative and good judgment to make sound decisions
• Ability to adapt to new technologies
• Effective organizational, planning, and time management skills
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment
