What’s the role?

Etsy is seeking a backend-focused Software Engineer to join our Ad Delivery Squad! This is an excellent opportunity for an Engineer who thrives at the intersection of delivery and observability. You will be working on a squad within the Etsy Ads Initiative, passionate about ensuring the Etsy Ads system is healthy across all of our supported platforms and devices.

This is a full-time position reporting to the Engineering Manager for Ads Delivery and the base salary range will be 171,000 - 201,000 USD per year. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy. What does the day-to-day look like?

• You will work with the other engineers and analysts on the squad to ensure we have the right tools and methods to deliver ads safely and consistently across platforms and devices
• You will work on challenging engineering problems such as:
  • How do we ensure dynamic delivery of millions of ads in a matter of milliseconds?
  • How do we allow product teams to move fast while ensuring consistent Ad quality across multiple pages, platforms and teams?
  • How do we gain confidence that we are charging for authentic ad clicks vs inauthentic or bot-driven ad clicks?
  • How do we develop the most useful granularity observability and monitoring?

Qualifications

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:

• You have experience working in PHP, Python or another object oriented language
• A strong understanding of relational databases. We use MySQL and BigQuery but any other flavor of SQL is ok
• Experience as a full stack engineer with the ability to write understandable, testable code with an eye towards maintainability and observability. Our work is more backend-focused but a familiarity with the frontend is extremely useful for identifying risks to delivery of ads
• Experience defining and solving unconstrained problems and know when to seek help with any roadblocks
• You have an analytical mindset and enjoy solving problems that involve recognizing patterns and finding solutions applying data
• You have a “leave it better than you found it” mentality and are willing to work with and improve on code written by others
• You have a mindful, transparent, and communicative approach as a member of your team.
