My Financial Partner is a subsidiary of Teamshares (a national, for-profit company helping American small businesses become employee owned. We bring the resources of big business to small business, starting with stock ownership). My Financial Partner (MFP) supports these multiple network companies with a team of experienced accounting professionals, delivering fractional accounting resources. PositionAs a Controller at MFP, you'll provide high-quality financial management for a subset of Teamshares network companies. You'll partner with company presidents and employee-owners to ensure robust financial oversight and identify profit improvement opportunities. This hands-on role requires active involvement in the financial operations of small to medium-sized businesses.
Key ResponsibilitiesLead accounting operations, including AP/AR, GL, inventory accounting, and revenue recognitionServe as a strategic advisor to company presidents, overseeing accounting and finance functionsEvaluate and implement financial tools and systems, developing key business metricsCollaborate on financial budgets, forecasts, and strategic projectsDevelop internal control policies and document business processesPerform risk management activitiesOversee treasury and cash management functionsSupport HR and payroll management
DutiesOversee month-end and year-end close process Perform balance sheet reconciliations (cash, credit card, A/R, A/P, etc.)Record fixed assets and depreciationRecord and amortize prepaid expensesCalculate and record payroll/bonus accrualsCalculate and record revenue/expense accruals as neededReview income statement accounts for classification and cutoffSubmit TB, variance analysis, and monthly close checklist to OneStreamDevelop and maintain 13-week cash flow forecast to identify potential cash flow issues and propose solutionsBook deferred revenue entries and reversals in the accounting systemReview and book income tax entries from TeamsharesReview trial balance regularly and make adjustmentsProvide support for quarterly sales tax returnsMake year-end adjustments and prepare worksheetsAssist with inventory adjustments associated with annual physical countOversee lead bookkeeping/other related finance functionsPrepare 1099sWork closely with the company President to prepare a financial forecast for the annual and quarterly strategic planning processDeliver key financial metrics, identify trends, and provide insights on business performance
RequirementsBachelor’s degree in business, accounting, or related field (CPA preferred)10+ years of professional accounting experienceExperience in small to medium sized business accountingExperience working for a mid-market accounting firm helpfulExperience working in a start-up environment strongly preferredExperience with inventory preferredExperience in operational finance and inventory issues with exposure to both financial and tax (reporting) accountingProficiency in QuickBooks Online and POS systemsWorking knowledge of US GAAPAdvanced project-management and problem-solving skillsAdaptable, proactive attitude with willingness to “roll up your sleeves”Tech savvy individual that can problem solve in a remote environment requiredThis position is remote, occasional travel may be required
