Job Summary
This position provides administrative oversight for Student Diversity and Belonging and is responsible for providing direct and comprehensive administrative support to the Director of Student Diversity and Belonging.
This position is responsible for day-to-day operations, coordination, and administration for the department, and the campus community centers, providing continuity of operations with respect to Student Affairs and university policy and procedures, performing a variety of key administrative and operational functions. This position is responsible for budget support and reporting as assigned and gathers data for budget reports for the Director and departmental expenses; interprets and applies complex operating policies and procedures related to the administrative and operational functions of the department; cultivates cooperative working relationships with a wide variety of contacts including University officials, administrators, faculty and staff and support staff, current students, and local community business. This position supports departmental event scheduling for all SDAB programs and manages student assistant timesheets and departmental training.
Department Summary
Student Diversity and Belonging (SDAB) is a collaborative sub-division of campus community centers that serve an active role in creating a culturally rich environment at Cal Poly’s campus and in San Luis Obispo. We instill understandings of diversity and inclusive excellence that cannot be separate from learning, teaching, collaboration, trust and community. Our unit is comprised of the following campus community centers: Asian Pacific Islander Desi American Initiatives, Black Academic Excellence Center, Dream Center, Gender Equity Center, Latinx Center, MultiCultural Center, Pride Center, the Men & Masculinities Center, and the Native American and Indigenous Cultural Center.
Key Qualifications
- Demonstrated customer service experience requiring a very high level of diplomacy and professionalism.
- Knowledge of or ability to quickly learn the university infrastructure, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to perform business math, analyze budgetary data, and make accurate projections requiring some inference.
- Ability to quickly learn budget policies and procedures.
- Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures independently, and use judgment and discretion to act when precedents do not exist.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or its equivalent. Type 45 wpm. Five years of general office support or technical experience. (Training at a vocational school or full-time college education may be substituted for two years of the required experience on the basis of one year of college education for 6 months of experience)
Salary and Benefits
Anticipated Hiring Range: $50,962 - $66,534 Per Year
Classification Range: $48,696 - $79,836 Per Year
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Anticipated Hiring Range referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Classification Range may be broader than what the University anticipates paying for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
