Job Summary
The Regional Director of Physician Practices (RDPP) is responsible for overseeing the core clinic operations of the assigned practices for the Deaconess Physician Enterprise. The primary goal is to achieve organizational objectives for efficiency, profitability, and high levels of clinical quality. This position will collaborate with senior leadership and key stakeholders, including the Deaconess Health System (DHS) Physician Division President, Senior Vice President & Chief Medical Officer, Vice President of Ambulatory Practices, Regional Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Regional Presidents, and Medical Directors. In addition to strategic planning, the RDPP coordinates with multiple support departments across the system, including billing & collections, lab, imaging, surgery, endoscopy, and IT systems. This role plays a key part in advancing Deaconess's mission to provide medical excellence to the community.

Vice President of Ambulatory Practices (Direct), Regional CMO (Dotted Line)

Essential Functions

Strategic & Service Planning:

  • Approve goals and objectives to ensure alignment with strategic goals set by Deaconess leadership.

  • Work with the regional CMO and physician recruiters to prioritize and execute recruitment for physicians and Advanced Practice Providers (APPs).

  • Develop business plans for new and existing services, integrating input from physicians.

  • Organize resources and define departmental benchmarks to execute business plans.

  • Maximize professional and ancillary referrals from assigned practices within DHS.

  • Provide information, proposals, and recommendations to Deaconess leadership as needed.

Operations Management:

  • Lead and monitor activities across all assigned clinical practices.

  • Foster a culture of continuous process improvement and enhance productivity.

  • Approve policies and procedures that align with overall practice operations.

  • Coordinate practice needs with internal departments, including HR, finance, billing, lab, imaging, IT, surgery, and endoscopy.

  • Collaborate with the CMO and Medical Directors to align physician goals with practice objectives.

Leadership & Communications:

  • Promote patient engagement initiatives and use data to set performance expectations.

  • Develop, negotiate, and manage contracts related to practice operations.

  • Guide practice leadership in improving performance and satisfaction for both staff and physicians.

  • Stay informed about local, state, and national healthcare trends and communicate relevant information to the team.

  • Ensure compliance with corporate policies and all relevant regulations (OSHA, CLIA, CMS).

  • Supervise practice-level directors, administrators, managers, and other key leadership positions.

Human Resources:

  • Oversee the recruitment, training, counseling, and, if necessary, termination of staff.

  • Monitor payroll, overtime, and departmental productivity.

  • Collaborate with HR and recruitment teams to screen, interview, and negotiate contracts with new providers.

  • Manage the contract process for new hires, amendments, and renewals.

Financial Management:

  • Analyze and share monthly and annual fiscal data.

  • Oversee the creation and implementation of departmental operating and capital budgets.

  • Monitor trends and performance metrics to meet budgeted volumes and operating goals.

  • Address deviations from budget and develop corrective action plans.

  • Provide input on financial analysis for capital, operational, and facility projects.

Education & Experience

Required:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)

  • Associate’s Degree (preferably in a health-related field)

  • Minimum of five years of relevant experience in physician practice management.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Health-related field (Master’s Degree preferred)
