About the RoleThe Specialist/Analyst, Energy Spend & Value Engineering will drive value engineering and energy cost optimization across the EV battery cell procurement function, supporting both Energy and Central Procurement teams. It focuses on strategic cost modeling, supplier collaboration, and identifying efficiency opportunities in energy sourcing and usage. The position enables cross-functional alignment to reduce total cost of ownership while enhancing sustainability and operational value.
This is a flex hybrid work structure, where employees can work both remotely and on-site at our St. Thomas location.
Key ResponsibilitiesEnergy Budgeting & Invoice Verification (30%)
- Support the preparation of energy cost forecasts and budgets in collaboration with Operations’ team.
- Verify utility and supplier invoices for accuracy, flag discrepancies, and support resolution with utilities, suppliers, and province’s energy regulators.
- Track actual vs. forecasted energy spend and provide variance analysis.
Supplier & Contract Optimization (20%)
- Support negotiations with suppliers to secure competitive pricing and favorable contract terms.
- Evaluate supplier performance and contract structures to reduce risk and improve long-term value.
- Conduct cost forecasts and variance analyses.
- Identify cost risks and implement mitigation strategies.
- Design-to-Cost Strategy Development (30%)
- Partner with engineering and suppliers to embed cost-conscious design principles into battery cell components.
- Drive early-stage cost visibility to influence design decisions and optimize total cost of ownership.
- Monitor cost projects costs and identify deviations from budget
Energy & Sustainability Alignment (5%)
- Support procurement strategies that align with corporate sustainability goals, including renewable energy adoption.
- Collaborate with internal teams to identify energy efficiency improvements across operations and supply chain.
Cross-Functional Value Projects (20%)
- Lead or contribute to cross-functional initiatives focused on process optimization and cost avoidance.
- Facilitate collaboration between procurement, engineering, operation and finance to unlock value across the product lifecycle.
- Collaborate closely with project managers, procurement, finance and operation teams.
- Support tender and contract evaluations from a cost perspective.
Data Analysis & Tools
- Proficient with MS Office Suite (especially MS-Excel, MS-PowerPoint, MS-Outlook), PowerBI, Tableau and other analytical tools to manage energy data, budgets, and forecasts.
- Experience with SAP is advantageous.
- Education: Master’s degree preferred in Engineering Management, Energy Economics, Sustainable Energy, Business Administration (MBA), or Supply Chain Strategy.
- Experience: with coordination of global teams is a strong plus. German language skills are considered an asset
- High degree of intercultural awareness and sensitivity. Experience with SAP SuccessFactors is considered an asset.
- Cost Modeling & Analysis – Ability to build and interpret cost models for energy and materials.
- Cost Estimation – Skilled in estimating ideal costs based on technical and market data.
- Energy Market Knowledge – Understanding of electricity and renewable energy markets and pricing mechanisms.
- Value Engineering Techniques – Familiarity with design-to-cost, function analysis, and product tear down methods.
