About the role
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership
- Define project goals, plan execution strategies, and oversee the installation of boiler pressure parts and components.
- Solve unique and complex technical issues related to boiler pressure part installations and overlay welding processes.
- Develop and implement innovative installation methods and practices to improve project efficiency and reliability.
- Provide expert-level technical support in welding and installation, guiding the team through complex tasks.
Promote a Culture of Safety
Foster a strong safety culture among team members by promoting awareness and adherence to company and regulatory safety standards. Acts as a role model by consistently following all safety protocols and ensuring others do the same.
Ensure Compliance:
- Enforce OSHA and company safety policies, including the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as full-face respirators, safety glasses, and protective clothing.
- Conduct routine inspections to ensure work areas, tools, and equipment meet safety requirements.
Hazard Identification and Mitigation:
- Identify potential safety hazards related to welding, rigging, and boiler installation activities and take corrective action promptly.
- Implement hazard control measures, such as proper ventilation for welding fumes, and ensure safe practices when working in confined spaces or at heights.
Emergency Preparedness:
- Train team members in emergency response procedures, such as handling equipment malfunctions, fire safety, and evacuation protocols.
- Ensure readiness of emergency equipment, such as fire extinguishers and first aid kits, in work areas.
Safety Training and Mentorship:
- Provide safety training and mentorship to team members, particularly junior welders, to ensure they understand and follow all safety requirements.
- Lead by example by adhering to all safety guidelines during welding, rigging, and equipment operation tasks.
Incident Reporting and Follow-Up:
- Report and document all safety incidents, near-misses, and injuries in a timely and accurate manner.
- Collaborate with supervisors and safety teams to investigate incidents, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions.
Risk Assessment and Job Planning:
- Conduct safety risk assessments before starting any welding or installation task.
- Include safety considerations in job planning, ensuring that tasks are executed with minimal risk to personnel and equipment.
Project Management and Team Leadership
- Align project direction with plant operations and broader business objectives.
- Assist the CFS Supervisor in organizing team roles, managing schedules, and prioritizing tasks.
- Onboard and train new employees, ensuring they develop the required technical skills and knowledge.
- Serve as the team lead for workgroups, ensuring collaboration and adherence to safety and quality standards.
Advanced Welding and Rigging Expertise
- Demonstrate mastery in overlay welding, including Inconel overlays and mirror welding techniques, as needed for projects.
- Independently interpret and execute mechanical drawings, including OEM and non-OEM schematics, for boiler component installation.
- Complete Rigging Level 1 certification and act as a master rigger, setting up and leading complex rigging operations.
