About the role

We are seeking an enthusiastic Pediatric Hospitalist to provide clinical coverage across our Level III and Level IV NICUs, attend high-risk deliveries, perform procedures and collaborate with neonatology and multidisciplinary teams.

The Mount Sinai Health System has a level III NICU at Mount Sinai West and a level IV NICU at The Mount Sinai Hospital. Both sites have active delivery services with strong MFM referral bases.  The MSW NICU has an average daily census of 20 and the MSH NICU has an average daily census of 50. The NICU teams at both sites include neonatologists from both the Level IV and III NICUs, pediatric hospitalists, advanced practice providers, resident physicians, nurses, as well as a wonderful support staff of respiratory therapists, nutritionists, therapists, social workers, lactation consultants, and music therapists.

  • Attend rounds as a key team member to provide care for critically ill newborns including coordination of multidisciplinary care as well as admitting and discharging patients.
  • Attend deliveries and provide neonatal resuscitation/stabilization.
  • Perform procedures in the NICU such as intubation, umbilical lines, chest tubes, among others.
  • Conduct consultations for newborns in the Well-baby Nursery and determine whether a higher level of care is indicated.
  • Coordinate with subspecialists, participate in transports, and communicate daily with families.
  • Contribute to quality improvement, education, and protocol development.

This is an excellent opportunity both for career hospitalists and for recent residency graduates considering future training in neonatal-perinatal medicine. There is flexibility in location/breakdown of NICU coverage depending on applicant’s preferences.

  • Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree from an accredited program.
  • Successful completion of a 3-year Pediatric ACGME approved residency program.
  • Active state medical license and DEA registration.
  • NRP certification; ACLS/PALS per institution.
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Pediatrics.
  • Meet eligibility requirements for an appointment to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
  • Experience in Level III/IV NICU care and procedural competence preferred.
