The Public Health Department promotes the health of our community through varied programs. The programs range from control of communicable diseases and coordination of the response to health emergencies to individual case management to primary prevention of disease and wellness promotion. Come join our dynamic, professional team committed to keeping Nevada County's residents safe and healthy!

Registered Nurses may be assigned to different areas of specialty consistent with their academic and clinical training to address various aspects of the community needs. They may provide clinical services such as collecting swab specimens and administration of vaccines when available. Under direct supervision, Nurses provide clinical or field services within the County utilizing professional skills, providing medication support services according to prescribed guidelines. Incumbents also learn and apply case management skills while performing related duties as assigned. Nurses may train and lead teams of other Public Health or other County staff members who are redeployed to contain and/or mitigate the spread of disease.

We are currently recruiting for two (2) part-time Registered Nurses to support our Adult Services team and our Senior Outreach Program.  One nurse will work half-time (0.5 FTE), and the other part-time up to 0.7 FTE.

Registered Nurse I:

This is the entry level class in the professional nursing series. Initially under close supervision, incumbents learn and perform duties of increasing complexity. This class is flexibly staffed with Registered Nurse II (RN II). Incumbents normally advance to the higher level after gaining sufficient experience and demonstrating proficiency in the requirements of RN II. Qualified candidates for the RN I will have graduated from an accredited school of nursing, preferably with an Associate of Science degree in Nursing, possess a valid license as a Registered Nurse issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing, and hold a current CPR certificate.

Registered Nurse II:

This is the journey level classification in the series, fully qualified to independently perform the full range of duties using professional judgment within the framework of standardized policies, procedures, and protocols. Medical direction is received from a licensed physician and administrative direction from the Director of Public Health Nursing and Public Health Officer. Incumbents may provide training, direction and guidance to other team members and less experienced employees. In addition to the requirements for Registered Nurse I, RN II candidates will have a minimum of two years of responsible work experience equivalent to the County’s classification of RN I.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Bring value to a strong, engaged team whose mission is to prevent disease, promote and support optimal health and wellness, and protect the community against disasters.
