Position Summary

The Camp Coordinator assists in leading the camp program and staff during the summer months. This position will be responsible for managing daily camp program schedules, staff assignments, and oversee the implementation of the program. The Y camp curriculum driven programs are designed to nurture personal growth and teach character values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Job Responsibilities

  • Provide a safe and healthy environment, both physically and mentally, to ensure the operation of a quality day camp program.
  • Assists with the daily supervision of camp program staff.
  • Ensures appropriate staff schedules meet camper to staff ratio requirements.
  • Assist in the planning and implementing of the daily camp curriculum that fit the children’s needs and interests.
  • Take responsibility for the safety of the children in the camp environment and the quality of the supplies, equipment and materials in the day camp areas.
  • Make sure proper procedures are followed for sign-in/out of children on a daily basis.
  • Report all accidents to the Supervisor, and completely fill out proper health log and/or accident/incident forms.
  • Report all suspicions of child abuse to proper authorities.
  • Direct or assist in the daily maintenance of the camp areas, ensuring safety and cleanliness.
  • Assume equal share of the regular housekeeping chores such as cleaning, preparing for daily activities and cleaning up after projects.
  • Assist in all phases of operation of the program.
  • Participate in member retention, special events and fundraising.
  • Remain up to date on emergency procedures and Family Center policies.
  • Assure all programs are in compliance with all state and local requirements governing child care.
  • Promote and represent the mission and core values of the YMCA of Central Florida in the Family Center and its programs.
  • Attend all staff meetings as required.
  • All other duties assigned by management.

Requirements

  • Minimum age 18 years or older.
  • High school diploma or equivalent education required.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in related a camp / youth field; including at least one year of staff supervisory experience.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, which may include weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Must be willing to work an on-call schedule rotation as required.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
  • The physical activities of this position include: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, and repetitive motions. May be required to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. in various forms, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. The employee must be able to perform medium work.
  • May be required to sit, stand, or maintain physical activity for extended periods of time.
  • Must exhibit patience and understanding. Receives and follows detailed instructions.
  • Must be alert at all times, keeping safety in mind.
