About the role

Duties and Responsibilities / KPI’s

  1. Operational Supervision:
    1. Operate tipper and stacker machines to unload iron ore from rail wagons and stack material in designated stockpiles.
    2. Monitor and adjust stacking parameters (height, angle, conveyor feed rate) to ensure even stockpile distribution.
    3. Coordinate with the control room and supervisors to maintain consistent material flow and avoid bottlenecks.
    4. Conduct pre-start, in-shift, and post-shift inspections of equipment, reporting abnormalities immediately.
    5. Maintain accurate records/logs of operational parameters, downtime, and production throughput.
    6. Support ship loading operations by ensuring stockpile readiness and material blending per shipping plans.

 

  1.  Team Management:
    1. Collaborate closely with other operators, maintenance, and logistics teams to ensure smooth material flow.
    2. Support team members through proper communication during shift handovers.
    3. Participate in daily toolbox talks and contribute to safety and performance discussions.
    4. Assist in mentoring or on-the-job training of junior operators when required.
  2. Logistics Coordination:
    1. Communicate with Rail Dispatch, Port Control, and Loadout Teams to coordinate wagon tipping schedules.
    2. Ensure alignment of tipping operations with vessel loading and stockyard management plans
    3. Provide timely updates to shift supervisors on delays, equipment issues, or operational constraints.
    4. Verify accuracy of material transfer data and reconcile discrepancies with logistics coordinators.

 

  1. Safety and Compliance:
    1. Strictly adhere to ArcelorMittal Liberia’s Health, Safety, Environment (HSE) policies and Port Safety Standard
    2. Perform Job Safety Analysis (JSA) before commencing tasks.
    3. Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
    4. Immediately report unsafe acts, conditions, or near misses to the shift supervisor.
    5. Ensure compliance with environmental controls to prevent spillage, dust emissions, and contamination.

 

  1. Maintenance and Equipment Management:
    1. Conduct routine operator-level maintenance (greasing, cleaning, fluid checks).
    2. Report defects, abnormal noises, leaks, or faults to the maintenance department promptly.
    3. Maintain cleanliness of cab and machinery.
    4. Support maintenance teams during scheduled inspections and repairs.

Ensure safe shutdown and isolation procedures are followed during maintenance

Qualifications / Experience / Knowledge

  • High School Diploma or Technical/Vocational Certificate in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Operations (preferred).
  • Specialized equipment operator training and certification (tipper/stacker operations) an advantage.
  • Experience:
  • Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in heavy equipment operation within mining, port, or bulk material handling environments.
  • Experience with stacker/reclaimer systems, conveyor operations, and control room coordination.
  • Familiarity with port logistics and iron ore or bulk cargo operations desirable.

Core Competencies / Skills

  • Skilled in operating heavy industrial machinery (stacker, tipper, reclaimer, conveyor systems).
  • Strong situational awareness and ability to work in high-risk environments.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Basic computer literacy for operational data entry and reporting.
  • Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills under pressure.

Ability to read operational diagrams and follow technical instructions.

  • Exposure to outdoor elements and noisy environments, with potential for rough or uneven terrain.
