- Support safe work on energized and de-energized high voltage lines under direction of senior personnel.
- Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, and equipment required for overhead line work.
- Report to an assigned Overhead reporting establishment within the Brooklyn/Queens region.
- Must be able to work at high elevations and safely perform electrical and mechanical tasks.
- Work overtime, off-hours, rotating shifts, weekends and holidays to support operational needs.
- Provide excellent customer service and create a positive, professional impression of the company during every customer interaction.
- Ability to progress within the Line Constructor High Voltage (HV) career track in Electric Operations, complete required driving school, and obtain a commercial drivers license (CDL).
- Must demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills.
- Comply with U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, including passing a DOT physical exam, maintaining a valid medical examiners certificate, and participating in random drug testing (including marijuana) before and during employment.
- Operate Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMVs) weighing between 10,000 and 26,000 pounds as required.
- Candidates are required to obtain American Red Cross certifications in Adult First Aid/CPR/AED and Bloodborne Pathogens. External candidates will be responsible for the cost of these certifications.
- High School Diploma/GED
- Certification from an Overhead line school preferred.
- Driver's License Required
- Perform extended driving through heavy traffic and severe off-road conditions
- Perform heavy manual labor, i.e. push, pull, and lift up to 50lbs
- Ability to carry tools and materials when climbing ladders and scaffolds, and entering confined spaces
- Ability to work in inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e., excessive heat, cold, noise, confined spaces)
- Ability to work with, and in, the vicinity of high voltage and/or other high-energy systems
- Ability to be approved to wear and use either a full or half-face respirator, without facial hair or other conditions that may interfere with the seal, in accordance with OSHA regulations
- Stand, walk, lift, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, and/or reach for the duration of the workday
- Ability to use hand tools and operate heavy machinery, i.e. jackhammers
- Acknowledge that if selected, must pass a Physical Abilites Test (PAT)
- Possess the capacity to free climb ladders up to 475 feet in height
- Use hand-eye coordination to adjust controls on equipment
- Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e. fire-retardant clothing and safety harnesses
- Use equipment with a maximum weight rating of 375lbs when wearing and/or carrying 25lbs of clothing and equipment
- The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
