About the role
SUMMARY
This position is responsible for the direction and overview of successful launch of all new programs at all global ATC facilities. This candidate is a hands-on individual that can function at a high level but can drill down to the details and potential step in to handle last minute tasks, if needed. This position will require significant travel both domestically and internationally.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- As a global position the VP of Engineering must be able to travel domestic and internationally at least 50-80%, depending on program load. Must show presence at all locations to ensure the person has line of sight of each program.
- Ensure the company creates and maintains a technology leadership position with remanufacturing processes that allow ATC to maintain or gain a competitive market advantage and pricing.
- Oversight of all programs through its Program Management Commercialization and ensuring all programs are on track by ensuring proper resources are available, directing and resolving all major issues by collaborating with customers, and all milestones/gates are achieved.
- Work closely with Business Development teams to ensure we win programs by ensuring CAPEX, material cost, and labor are able optimized to win programs. This includes developing technical customer presentations.
- Responsible implementing and improving ATC’s Technology Roadmap to ensure the company provides a global support and product portfolio that supports the customer “Power of Choice” technologies.
- Assist Operational VP to develop, monitor and exceed budget through ATC’s annual operating plan
- Support each plant managers with seamless transfer of new program as well as support program expansions.
- Evaluate greenfield or brownfield sites for expansions.
- Conduct regular, routine testing of competitive products to establish performance benchmarks against our own products.
- Preparation and implementation of strategic plan initiatives through our roadmap strategy and deployment.
- Provide mentoring and coaching to department employees with special focus on high potential and successor candidates.
- Must have strong understanding of low volume and high complexity manufacturing lines that meets the customer requirements and internal ROI requirements.
- Ensure product conformance to customer requirements and all applicable industry standards.
- Cooperatively work with Plant management teams and Plant Manufacturing Engineers to recover core components that will improve manufacturability, reduce costs and improve quality.
- Drive continuous improvement of warranty cost through final review and approval of all warranty claims. This includes working with all customers on warranty reduction efforts.
- Act as a consultant to customer application needs and requirements.
- Also responsible for developing the quality metrics and ensuring ATC meets all quality certifications including TS16949, ISO9000, ISO 14000, as well as meet all the customer specific certifications.
- Other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Meet and exceed timing and CAPEX budget requirements for all new programs, globally.
- Continue to drive cost reduction through SREA savings targets
- Develop processes to improve salvage and recovery rates
- Implementation and adherence to principles of lean (eg. Design for re-manufacturability, 6-sigma) in all OE products and value engineering projects.
- Products re-manufactured in accordance to all applicable industry standards.
- Provide complete, on-time custom project design support for company accepted projects.
- Adherence and performance to department and company budgets.
- On-time completion of targeted policy deployment objectives and reports.
- Mentoring and coaching performance of department associates.
- Reduce warranty expenses
- Design processes and placement of equipment to eliminate safety incidents.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Minimum Bachelor's Degree (BS) in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering. Master or MBA or business acumen experience is highly preferred.
- Must have strong systems knowledge (i.e., not just a component or sub-system) both ICE, HEV, PHEV, and EV powertrain and drivetrain systems.
- Minimum 20 years of progressive management experience directing engineering and technical staff.
- Automotive industry experience highly preferred with background in powertrain and drivetrain.
- Remanufacturing experience in automotive propulsion is a plus
- Able to speak Chinese and/or German is a plus but not essential
- Lean or six-sigma (Green or Black Belt) certifi
