About the position:

This is a front‑office lending role within ING’s Specialized Lending platform. The Associate will support the origination and execution of lending transactions in the Transportation & Logistics sector. The Associate will be expected to build expertise in asset-based lending including shipping, containers, rail, and aviation.

The position offers hands‑on experience across the full lifecycle of secured lending transactions, including origination support, credit analysis, structuring, and execution. The Associate will work closely with Relationship Managers, Directors, Managing Directors, and sector specialists and will gain exposure to industry dynamics, asset values, legal structures, and risk considerations specific to transportation assets.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Supporting origination and execution efforts for Transportation & Logistics lending transactions, with a focus on asset-based lending across shipping, containers, rail, and aviation
  • Initial deal screening, borrower/obligor analysis, and credit assessment under guidance of senior team members, incorporating asset quality, residual value, and market liquidity considerations
  • Assisting in due diligence processes, including analysis of borrower financials, business models, fleet/asset composition, utilization, counterparty profiles, and industry dynamics
  • Preparing and contributing to internal credit approval materials, including transaction narratives, collateral descriptions, advance rate and covenant proposals, stress cases, and risk mitigants
  • Building, reviewing, and updating financial models, including collateral and borrowing base analyses (where applicable), valuation, asset-level cash flow and depreciation assumptions, downside and recovery analyses, and internal risk rating tools
  • Reviewing financing documentation and supporting analysis of key commercial and collateral terms (e.g., security package, collateral eligibility, reporting requirements, covenants, and events of default) in loan and related agreements
  • Coordinating with internal stakeholders such as Risk, Legal, Loan Operations, Treasury, and Finance, and with external parties (e.g., counsel, technical advisors, and appraisers) as needed to support transaction execution and closings

Qualifications and Competencies:

Associate level:

  • 3+ years of relevant experience in lending, corporate finance, structured/asset-based finance, project finance, or investment banking; Transportation & Logistics sector exposure is a strong plus

Core qualifications:

  • Strong financial and credit analysis skills with a solid understanding of financial statements and cash‑flow‑based and secured lending fundamentals
  • Financial modeling including sensitivity analysis and scenario modeling
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple workstreams in a fast‑paced environment and meet deadlines
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively across sectors and teams
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
     

Salary Range: $130,000 - $175,000

The salary range listed reflects base salary only. This role is eligible for participation in a discretionary bonus program.
