About the role

The Mechanical Supervisor reports to the Maintenance Manager and will oversee the safe, day-to-day on-line and outage (forced and planned) activities of the Maintenance Mechanical team and Contractors as assigned   

Duties and responsibilities Include:

  • Conducts daily Safety tailgate/turnover meetings with workgroup for safety & production.

  • Conducts daily, weekly, and monthly departmental safety meetings and champions the plant safety program effectively and with equality for all employees.

  • Scheduling and attending monthly safety training as required.

  • Be actively involved in the safety and quality planning of work being performed by the maintenance team and contractor work group(s) on-site. Ensure quality safe work permits and all other safety and quality related programs are utilized. Provide coaching and feedback as needed to improve safety and elevate standards.

  • Promotes team building and collaboration with peers, subordinates, and management teams.

  • Responsible for providing good, sound judgment on reducing costs, work duration and maintaining good facility relationships with all crafts, contractors, and vendors.

  • Delivery of clear instructions and clear expectations for performance and to assist in continuous improvement.

  • Recommendation of critical spare parts and assists in determining the stock levels and stock parts for inventory based on lead times and equipment criticality. Order and maintain tools in accordance with OHSA and Regulatory requirements including all lifting/rigging equipment, slings, chain falls, com-a-longs and chokers, etc.

  • Train maintenance personnel and provide appropriate assistance with training on all plant systems and equipment.

  • Provide onsite leadership from job planning to final execution: Oversees daily tasks and provides technical assistance, guidance and industry standard recommendations.

  • Ensures maintenance activities are performed to approved standards, and stops work as-needed to ensure proper standards are adhered to.

  • Assists Maintenance Manager and Planner to review proposed contractor work methods and ensure contractor work performance is in accordance with approved plant and industry standards.

  • Assists the Maintenance Manager and Planner by reviewing and following work schedules and outage planning.

  • Review drawings and specifications, evaluating feasibility, quality and compliance in light of industry and Company standards.

  • Monitors Corrective, Preventative and Predictive maintenance throughout the facility including mobile equipment.

  • Oversee, interpret and make necessary repairs to plant equipment and any rolling stock based on data from the CMMS system, vibration analysis and oil analysis programs.

  • Oversee and monitor daily plant work scopes and projects to ensure activities are performed safely, accurately and within prescribed time frames, and in compliance with Company SOP’s, as well as regulatory standards and requirements.

  • Troubleshoot complex technical/mechanical issues, while collaborating with peers, supervisors, and management to resolve, develop, implement and document appropriate solutions.

  • Inspect and approve completed work done by the mechanic(s) on a day-to-day basis.

  • Monitors tool and spare parts requirements and verifies that adequate provisions for such equipment are included in the Inventory Control Systems
