Demonstrated record of high-quality research publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Demonstrated experience in proposal writing, budgeting, and supervision and/or training of undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and research staff.

The Division of Materials Science and Engineering (DMSE) within Ames National Laboratory, is seeking candidates for the position of Scientist Il.
This position conceives, designs, and conducts research projects focused on enhancing Ames National Laboratory high pressure capabilities in material synthesis and measurements via designing, commissioning and using laser-heated diamond anvil cell system, and Raman pressure calibration setup as well as performing electrical transport and magnetic measurements of novel quantum materials in a diamond pressure cell as a function of temperature and magnetic field. The candidate will also be expected to perform x-ray scattering and other measurements under pressure at National User facilities.
The position necessitates collaboration with the supervisor and other Principal Investigators (PIs) in the Division of Materials Sciences and Engineering within the Ames National Laboratory The position requires; the formulation of research projects to investigate materials of particular importance and interest; conducting and supervising related experiments; data analysis; presentation of research at professional meetings; drafting of manuscripts for publication with collaborating co-authors; and writing research proposals for future funding of research projects (as PI or co-PI). The duties of this position also include the maintenance and supervision of the daily operation of pressure cells, cryostats, and other associated equipment.
Demonstrated effective communication skills needed to interface with a diverse team of administrative and scientific staff, postdocs, graduate students and undergraduate students are essential for success in this position. This position will communicate with key stakeholders and implement project management framework.
This is a 1-year term appointment, with the possibility of renewal.
