About the role

About the Organization Now is a great time to join Redhorse Corporation. Redhorse specializes in developing and implementing creative strategies and solutions with private, state, and federal customers in the areas of cultural and environmental resources services, climate and energy change, information technology, and intelligence services. We are hiring creative, motivated, and talented people with a passion for doing what's right, what's smart, and what works.
Position Description Redhorse Corporation (Redhorse) is seeking a Data Scientist that will build the next generation of predictive failure models for the US Marine Corps fleet vehicles. You will analyze signal and fault data and develop Sensor Based Algorithms (SBAs) with the objective of increasing vehicle availability while reducing life cycle maintenance costs. Pairing sensor data with failure data from maintenance depot records, you will train machine learning models to forecast system and part failures for medium-heavy ground vehicles.
This position will provide the opportunity to work remotely. At Redhorse Corporation, our mission is to transform the way the government interacts with and utilizes data and technology to better serve its citizens. Our approach combines design thinking, Lean Startup, and Agile principles, driven by our world-class data scientists. We are seeking creative, motivated talent that is committed to smart, ethical innovation to be part of the Conditions Based Maintenance (CBM+) Program performing predictive maintenance and predictive logistics model development and forecasting work.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop and integrate Sensor-Based Algorithm (SBA) models for select USMC ground vehicles using AI/ML techniques.
  • Create failure models for these vehicles using text-based maintenance data and NLP techniques.
  • Combine SBA models with maintenance data models for an integrated predictive system.
  • Implement and field novel predictive failure models.
  • Produce regularly enhanced reliability-centered maintenance forecasts for assigned vehicles and components.
  • Generate and maintain long-term supply forecasts for assigned vehicles and components.
  • Engage with users, stakeholders, and technical discussions to gather feedback and best practices.
  • Document work in technical reports.
  • Mentor and develop junior data scientists and team members.

Minimum Basic Requirements for Skills, Experience, Education and Credentials include:

  • Data Scientist with 4 years of experience including experience in AI/ML modeling, applied NLP, anomaly detection, and related topics.
  • Expertise coding in Python.
  • Understanding of SBAs and Weibull distribution for predicting part failures.
  • Experience modeling real world data with unsupervised techniques.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to drive key client communication and exceptions.
  • Experience engaging clients and fostering positive business relationships at the highest levels of the Federal Government.
  • Experience working with office productivity software, such as Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and file sharing applications.
  • Ability to travel on rare occasions to meet with government customers and stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications include:

  • Advanced degree in a highly quantitative field (Computer Science, Machine Learning, Operational Research, Statistics, Mathematics, etc.) or equivalent professional or military experience.
  • Experience with Predictive Maintenance / Logistics.
  • Experience with sensor-based failure predictions and modeling.
  • Experience with Monte-Carlo simulation and calculation of confidence levels.
  • Experience with data from JLTV, MVTR, and LVSR platforms.
  • Experience using visualization tools like Tableau/PowerBI/Qlik.
  • Expertise in Digital Signal Processing (DSP) and CAN bus J1939 data/algorithms.
  • Experience with the Advana Platform.
  • Experience with SQL.
