About the role
Responsibilities:
- Obtain health insurance eligibility and benefits verification for patients.
- Perform and document financial counseling processes on all patients prior to and during treatment, which includes patient financial obligations, billing practices and establishing secure payment arrangements.
- Educate and counsel patients on financial responsibility – meet with patients to explain cost of treatment, insurance coverage, and financial responsibility.
- Produce cost estimates for exams outside of assigned schedules for any Imaging exam upon request.
- Notify self-pay patients of patient responsibilities in ordinance with the No Surprise Billing Act.
- Review and update patient accounts in advance, with current coverage, financial responsibility/copays, and payment plans.
- Conduct thorough research of patient accounts in regard to insurance coverage, accurate coding of charges, transmittal and payment of insurance and appropriation of deductibles, co-pay and insurance write-offs.
- Analyze profit/loss statements per treatment cycle and communicate with providers for treatment planning when required.
- Act as a back up for PSR’s in other departments when necessary.
- Collaborate with and educate PCS staff members regarding insurance, revenue cycle, payments etc.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of insurance plans BW currently participates in as well as Medicare and Medicaid.
- May assist with daily and monthly office functions, including reporting, file maintenance, meeting participation, and special projects.
- Other duties as assigned by Practice Manager and Director of Central Business Office.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED ; Associates degree in Medical Office preferred.
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience in medical insurance/billing, financial counseling, and/or patient financial assistance.
- Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally.
- Working knowledge of insurance plans and coverage limitations.
- Knowledge of and/or experience with Insurance, ICD-10, HCPS, and CPT coding.
- Strong customer service and patient engagement skills.
- Organizational, time management, multi-tasking and attention to detail skills required.
- Working knowledge and/or experience with multiple computer systems and applications.
