Legal Intern (1L or 2L Law Students)
The candidates will report to and work closely with our inhouse legal counsel and collaborate with other members of the TerraPower Legal team and other employees, to help to research relevant legal issues, and edit legal documents and contracts to both protect TerraPower and help use more our business forward. Qualified candidates will have an interest in the inhouse legal environment, and a demonstrated commitment to advanced nuclear projects. Interns will be exposed to a variety of areas, with a primary focus on contracts, intellectual property and legal compliance. Interns must have good research, writing, and interpersonal skills.
Responsibilities
- Conduct legal research and assist in the preparation of legal documents, special projects, and reports.
- Conduct marketplace and IP research to develop a comparative IP framework.
- Review various agreements to develop internal procedures for data and IP sharing.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to provide legal guidance, and answer contract-related inquiries.
- Review, draft, and manage a wide range of lower-risk contracts and agreements, including but not limited to vendor contracts, software licenses, customer agreements, non-disclosure agreements, and other commercial agreements.
- Pairing with inhouse attorneys who will serve as a managers during the internship and provide guidance on job duties, and special projects.
Key Qualifications and Skills
- Applicants must be currently enrolled in an ABA accredited law school, and in their 1L or 2L year.
- Finished 1L law school year and completed contracts law coursework; IP law and international law coursework is preferred.
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills, including documentation of findings and recommendations.
- High level of proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and SharePoint with strong computer skills to learn docketing and IP search software tools.
- Ability to drive completion of due dates
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills.
- Critical thinking skills and ability to professionally address problems and initiate corrective action.
- Keen accuracy and strong attention to detail; ability to multi-task.
- Team player; consistently and proactively volunteer to assist where needed.
- The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trustworthiness and integrity, communicate openly and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork.
