Job Summary (General Responsibilities):
As a Business Development Manager, you will be responsible for developing new business as well as maintaining and driving sales at accounts to achieve efficient and profitable sales of the company’s products to targeted levels. Take initiative to optimize existing accounts and prospects. Establish and maintain strong relationships with existing and new accounts. May provide direction / assignments to Sales Support Representatives, Senior Sales Support Representatives, and Sales Support Managers to help develop sales business.
Location:
This position offers the flexibility to work from home, with a requirement for weekly client visits in Basking Ridge, NJ.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with new and existing major accounts including product managers, buyers, planners, etc.
- Assist customers with all account-related questions, issues, or concerns. Provide accurate, timely information to the customers regarding inquiries such as products, pricing, and quotes.
- Meet or exceed sales and profit goals established by upper management.
- Identify opportunities and challenges within account base and create strategies to maximize sell-through, profit, revenue and market share.
- Strive to increase net sales by reducing returns and allowances.
- Create proposals, negotiate agreements, establish pricing and maintain a strong overall relationship with the client.
- Exhibit strong leadership skills and motivate sales team to perform their duties in excellent fashion
- Assist Business Development Managers, National Account Managers, and Sales Directors with website and catalog analysis or store visits.
- Provide positive reinforcement and constructive criticism to team members and escalate any issues as they arise.
- Execute upon direction from BDM / NAM / Director with respect to RMAs, returns & allowances (R&A), quotes, promotions, sell through, inventory management, turns, forecasts, and any other account activities that will impact financial results for the account(s), and report findings to Business Development Manager / NAM / Director.
- Provide customer recaps for all meetings and take a leadership role to ensure all action items are executed upon including delegation of assignments to account representatives.
- Follow the sales team’s procedures for managing and maintaining opportunity pipeline, quotes, bids, etc. and be prepared to present that information when requested.
- Establish and track an annual account budget, which includes sales and profits.
- Review and analyze daily sales and compare actual vs. projected / plan results and be prepared to present that information when requested.
- Analyze and understand industry market trends, competition, products, and pricing that may impact sales efforts and communicate this information to all sales management and other departments as necessary.
- Effectively work across internal functional groups (Planning, program management, marketing, finance, etc.) to collaborate, program manage, and execute to customer expectations.
- Assist in optimizing profitability at each assigned account.
- Assist sales team with all account related questions, issues, and concerns.
- Recognize and escalate all critical issues regarding accounts and/or company policies to management immediately.
- Travel to tradeshows and weekly customer sites required. Depending on assignment, domestic travel may be required.
- Learn and remain proficient on the Belkin product lines.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience in Business Administration, Marketing, or Technology preferred.
- 1-3 years’ experience managing key retail accounts or in an equivalent position.
- Proven track record of driving sales growth through strategic account management and fostering long-term client relationships.
- Strong ability to multi-task and maintain accuracy is required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% domestically, including weekly client visits in Basking Ridge, NJ, attendance at tradeshows, and bi-annual travel to corporate headquarters.
