Product Engineer - Academics and Admissions

Description
This is a junior to mid-level full time product engineering role where you’ll work at the individual contributor level on our School Community product team. On this team, you’ll help to build and improve our Academics and Admission offerings. Schools rely on software created and managed by the School Community team for learning management, course definition and scheduling, grade reporting, engaging with school families, and the whole range of tasks associated with recruiting and matriculating students. The School Community Team works directly with the educational functions of a school and, as such, is a dynamic and critical part of the Veracross business.
This role is dynamic and offers opportunities for technical growth. This is an exciting time to join this team as we embark on a major refresh of our learning management system and online enrollment portals.
Our engineering team is remote-friendly, distributed, and has employees in a variety of states and contractors in several countries. While our headquarters are in Wakefield, MA, candidates are encouraged to apply from anywhere.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the School Community team at the individual and team level.
- Improve and maintain our Ruby on Rails applications.
- Build new features within our flagship product, Axiom.
- With Product Management, participate in the development of new features and platform improvements.
- Enhance and improve our Academics offerings.
- Work to advance our Admission components and workflows.
- Integrate Veracross with third-party systems used by private K-12 schools.
Requirements
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Excellent technical organization and planning skills.
- The ability to perform technical responsibilities remotely in a mostly asynchronous environment.
- The ability to be flexible and adaptable.
- 2+ years of professional programming experience.
- Experience with the Ruby language, Rails framework, or similar languages and technologies.
- Experience with modern JavaScript development; React experience a plus.
- Experience in web programming.
- Experience with relational databases.
- Experience with source control, especially git.
- A service- and team-oriented mindset.
- US Citizenship.
