The Assistant Athletic Training/Physical Therapist position for LSU football is to provide rehabilitative and preventative care services for our student-athletes. Available for short-term or long-term rehabilitations for football and works together with the physicians and staff athletic trainers to provide physical therapy services for our student-athletes. Provides daily medical coverage for student-athletes.
80% Provide daily medical coverage to over 125 members of the Football program including: injury prevention, recognition and assessment, injury treatment and rehabilitation as well as referrals for athletic and non-athletic injuries and ailments, maintaining accurate records of injuries; Provide rehabilitative services to our student-athletes to include: perform initial and ongoing physical therapy evaluations; develop plan of treatment for each patient based on initial and ongoing evaluations including short and long term goals, and required patient and caregiver involvement; implement plan of treatment on a consistent schedule and adjust this schedule and plan according to patient progress; evaluate mobility, strength and current level of patient function, while setting goals to improve in these areas that are scaled to patient abilities and realistically attainable.
15% Provide preventative screening services to our student-athletes; Consult with physicians and athletic training staff on all student-athletes physical therapy progressions; Provide education in the form of rehabilitation progression, specific techniques most beneficial in specific situations, and prognosis for athletic trainer, coach, and student-athlete; Document all physical therapy services in LSU database and PT documentation system.
5% Advances and supports LSU and Athletics Department initiatives through personal participation in educational and developmental opportunities, as well as participation in the creation of a respectful culture consistent with the values of LSU and its Athletics Department; Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Doctorate of Physical Therapy; NATA certified for at least one year and eligibility for Louisiana licensure; Licensed Physical Therapist (PT) and eligibility for Louisiana state licensure; CPR/AED certified and Master's degree in Athletic Training, Kinesiology, Physical Therapy or related field with one year experience as an Athletic Trainer at the collegiate D1 or professional level.
Special or Physical Qualifications
Ability to work extended days, weekends, holidays and on-call emergencies. Travel is required. Light work with some physical demands such as continuously lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds, but rarely moving more than 25 to 50 pounds. Due to the nature of the position and/or position responsibilities, this position shall be subject to drug/alcohol testing in accordance with University PS-67. Pre-employment drug screen and physical are required.
