Job Description

Coffman Engineers is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer who will be a Spring 2026 graduate with a Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in engineering.  The successful candidate will have a desire to work, grow, and have fun with a multi-discipline engineering team. They are passionate about engineering and looking for an environment that promotes professional growth and technical excellence.

The successful individual will have a passion for protecting lives from fire risks in the built environment. The ideal candidate will have a fire protection engineering degree, however, an engineering degree in other fields (mechanical, architectural, civil, etc.) with a demonstrated interest in fire protection will also be considered.

This position will support the team in providing our clients with: fire and life safety code analysis; egress analysis; fire resistant rated construction analysis; automatic suppression system design and analysis; fire detection, alarm and communication system design and analysis; smoke control system design and special inspections; site inspections and witness of life safety system testing; fire hazard analysis; performance-based design; as well as general fire protection and life safety concepts.

The Denver Fire Protection Engineering department collectively has 50+ years of experience in Fire Protection Engineering across our department of six, all of whom will provide you with training, mentorship, and support to help you grow your career. We enjoy working together collaboratively in the office and supporting each other to deliver good engineering work that makes the world a safer place.

Qualifications

Requirements Include:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in engineering from accredited college or university. Fire Protection specific degree preferred.
  • Experience working in AutoCAD and/or REVIT (preferred).
  • General building construction knowledge (preferred).
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including oral presentation skills.
  • Ability to work on a highly-motivated team, think outside the box, and be proud of the work you do while having a passion for expanding your knowledge and skills.

Desired Skills & Duties:

  • Possess intermediate level computer skills necessary for daily activities, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, and simple graphics.
  • Manage day-to-day contacts with internal and external clients utilizing experience and technology to meet expectations.
  • Attend and participate in local and national professional organizations, such as SFPE and NFPA.
  • Performing research and document for internal and external distribution.
  • Analysis of existing fire protection systems; design new fire protection systems including suppression systems, fire detection, fire alarm and mass notification systems.
  • Building and fire code analysis and interpretation.
  • Utilization of AutoCAD, Revit to prepare fire protection system designs.
  • Utilization of FDS, CONTAM, FLACS, PHAST, etc. programs to execute performance-based design efforts.

This position is not eligible for sponsorship. No paid interview travel or relocation expenses are offered for this position.

The expected salary range for this position is $65,000-$90,000 annually.
