This position has an end date of 08/31/24, renewable based upon availability of funding, work performance, and progress toward goals.

Purpose

This full-time position at the Center for Psychedelic Research and Therapy at Dell Medical School, UT Austin, involves overseeing clinical research studies and trials funded by NIH, private foundations, and commercial entities. Responsibilities include coordinating day-to-day laboratory operations, managing communication with government entities such as the FDA for research approvals, overseeing IRB communications and submissions, implementing new policies and procedures, managing financial activities, assisting with subject recruitment, and contributing to data collection and analysis for research projects involving individuals with psychiatric disorders. The role also entails potential oversight of future hiring and volunteer processes, as well as collaboration with the Clinical Trials Team in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate laboratory day to day operations for designated studies.

  • Create standard operating procedures for study protocols and implement new policies and procedures for improvement of study activities.

  • Lead subject recruitment and coordinate scheduling of participant visits.

  • Develop, conduct, and analyze research projects as a part of a team of faculty, graduate students, and undergraduate assistants.

  • Manage financial activities in relation to project equipment, supplies, and compensation disbursement, and serve as an interface with commercial and regulatory entities, including the FDA, IRB, and pharmaceutical companies.

  • Other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree and 2 years experience in psychology, social work, neuroscience, engineering, computer science, or other STEM-related field OR a bachelor's degree and 4 years of experience in a similar field actively working in clinical research coordination in a psychology, psychiatry, social work, counseling, or human subjects biomedical research laboratory.  Professional demeanor with tact and respect at all times. Ability to address individuals and health-related information with a high degree of sensitivity and confidentiality in various delicate, formal or urgent situations. Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to lead projects, work independently, and troubleshoot difficulties. Good self-care and stress management skills. Outstanding organizational and time-management skills. Demonstrated critical thinking skills and excellent attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to work well with faculty, staff, and students, including the willingness and ability to train and oversee volunteers, undergraduate, and graduate students. Previous experience with MRI and/or electroencephalogram acquisition or analysis, phlebotomy, administration of investigational drugs and neuromodulation interventions (e.g., repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation), and/or administering standardized clinical interviews and assessments a plus. Applicant must be comfortable working in an MR scanner environment, and eventually in operating the scanner (on the job training will be provided). Must be comfortable interacting with and working with people living with psychiatric disorders, including eventual conduction of clinical interviews (on-the-job training will be provided). Must be willing to occasionally work some nights and/or weekends as needed to facilitate data collection and/or impending deadlines. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree with relevant experience in clinical research coordination, commercial clinical trials, and/or mental/behavioral health field. Background in and experience with programming, statistics, and/or imaging methods preferred. Experience in behavioral assessments and clinical research is also preferred.
