Principal Scientist - Computational Chemistry - Amgen San Francisco
What you will do
Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. We are actively seeking a highly qualified and motivated Principal Scientist to join the Computational Chemistry team within Amgen’s Center for Research Acceleration and Digital Innovation (CRADI). CRADI functions within our drug discovery engine to accelerate our pipeline from target inception through drug development. As part of the Computational Chemistry team, you will develop and apply tools to generate novel molecules and predict chemical properties to guide the successful discovery of small molecule therapeutics. This position is the first Computational Chemistry role in our Amgen San Fransisco site. In this vital role you will:
Participate on multiple interdisciplinary discovery project teams and play a key role in defining project strategies and achieving project milestone transitions
Apply structure-based, ligand-based and machine learning/generative design to advance drug discovery projects (both small molecule and targeted protein degradation projects)
Analyze potential drug targets to assess their druggability and help identify best modality and contribute to develop the screening strategy
Perform virtual screening campaigns to identify novel starting points
Guide and apply new Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence technology developments
Guide and apply new protein degradation workflows working closely with Induced Proximity Platform colleagues
Contribute to guide infrastructure improvements, software portfolio recommendations and prospecting of relevant cutting-edge computational technologies/companies

Basic Qualifications:
Ph.D. degree and 2 years of experience in computational chemistry
Or
Master’s degree and 5 years of experience in computational chemistry
Or
Bachelor’s degree and 7 years of experience in computational chemistry
Preferred Qualifications:
PhD. in Computational Chemistry or related field
Proven accomplishments supporting drug design projects with 4+ years of relevant experience in the biopharmaceutical industry
Expert in the field of computational chemistry in an industry setting and good knowledge of related and adjacent disciplinary areas
Thorough understanding of the drug discovery process from lead screening to late-stage optimization and know how to maximize the impact of computational modeling
Good external publication record, excellent communication and organizational skills and demonstrated ability as a team leader

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is $163,479 - $199,808 Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
