The Senior Staff Attorney and Staff Attorney role is an in-house position that will handle a designated caseload of Workers’ Compensation cases appearances before the California Workers' Compensation Boards in Orange County, Anaheim , Santa Ana, Pomona and Long Beach California.

Our selected candidate will be part of collaborative learning environment with onsite appearances in partnership with our Attorney Staff. RESPONSIBILITIES:

•  Analyze complex legal and factual issues, conduct extensive and develop

   well-reasoned legal research.

•  Independently create and present defense strategies on behalf of clients.

•  Prepare complex pleadings, written discovery, depositions, motions and 

    briefs in support of defense strategies with autonomy.

•  Partner with our Claims Partners to achieve the best results for our Hartford 

    insured.

•  Provide effective and timely communications, information, legal advice and 

    other services to clients on legal and factual issues.

•  Communicate with the court, witnesses, opposing counsel and co-counsel 

    with professional diplomacy and discretion.

•  Facilitate prompt, efficient and effective disposition of assigned cases.

•  Independently prepare and present witnesses and evidence at trials, 

    judicial/administrative hearings, arbitrations and alternative dispute 

    resolutions.

  Research, draft, file and argue appellate briefs in reviewing courts on behalf of

    clients.

•  Participate in Team Huddles.

•  Provide in-house training to junior associates and/or claims partners.

•  Participate in claims file reviews.

•  Attend continuing legal education seminars in order to maintain high level of 

    professional expertise. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Staff Attorney:

•  Minimum of 3 years of legal practice experience handling complex Workers’ 

   Compensation cases.

•  JD from accredited law school and license to practice in the state of 

   California.

•  Trial experience is preferred.

•  Positive minded and collaborative team-player attitude.

•  Strong legal research and writing skills.

•  Solid MS Office proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook).

•  Lexis Nexis experience is a plus!

•  Self-directed with excellent organizational and prioritization skills.

•  Strong computer skills and the ability to quickly leverage new software as 

    required.

Sr Staff Attorney:

•  Minimum of 5 years of legal practice experience handling complex workers’ 

    compensation cases.

•  JD from accredited law school and license to practice in the state of 

    California.

•  Trial experience is preferred.

•  Strong legal research and writing skills.

WHAT ELSE CAN YOU TELL ME?

This position is a remote work opportunity however, our selected candidate will travel 1-4 days per week (pending future court openings) within the following geography: Orange County, Anaheim , Santa Ana, Pomona and Long Beach California.
