FACILITY MAINTENANCE SPECIALIST

Woodburn, Oregon - MACLAREN YOUTH CORRECTIONAL FACILITY

Join the Oregon Youth Authority as a Facility Maintenance Specialist at MacLaren Youth Correctional Facility, where you will put your skilled trade abilities to work in support of a safe, secure, and well-maintained campus. In this role, you will perform a wide range of maintenance and repair tasks—spanning plumbing, carpentry, painting, welding, groundskeeping, general building upkeep, and vehicle/small engine repair. You may work across all trade areas or focus on specific specialties based on agency needs. This position is located in a close-custody environment where security, safety, and vigilance are top priorities. You will also have the opportunity to mentor and train youth work crews, teaching them practical trade skills, safe tool use, and positive work habits. Our ideal candidate has hands-on experience maintaining and repairing buildings, fixtures, and equipment; can troubleshoot and adapt to shifting priorities; and understands maintenance safety procedures. Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform skilled maintenance and repair work on buildings, vehicles, and equipment in areas such as plumbing, carpentry, painting, welding, groundskeeping, and small engine repair.
• Plan and complete maintenance projects safely and efficiently, ensuring compliance with building codes, safety rules, and agency procedures.
• Supervise and train youth work crews, teaching practical trade skills, tool safety, and positive work habits.
• Inspect and troubleshoot systems or equipment, determine repair needs, and coordinate with contractors and vendors when necessary.
• Maintain safety and security in a close-custody environment, remaining alert to potential breaches and taking immediate action when needed.

How to qualify:

• Two years of: a) general building maintenance; b) carpentry; c) electrical; d) mechanical; e) painting; or f) plastering experience.

A journeyman's license/card in any of the above trades will substitute for this experience. Be sure a copy of your journeyman's license/card is attached to your application form.

Special Requirements:

• Driver License Required: Driving is an essential function of this position. A valid driver license and an acceptable driving record are required for this position. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s).

• Provide polite and professional service to youth, staff, contractors, and other “customers” of the facility.
• Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, youth and vendors, written and verbal.

• Must have the fine motor skills required to safely use test equipment, instruments, and tools.
