Job Overview

Location/Schedule: This position supports primary care service delivery across Cascadia run health centers within the Portland metro area. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Position Description: The Certified Medical Assistant is responsible for delivering quality and customer-focused health care to the individuals served in a manner that reflects Cascadia’s mission, vision and values. This position provides clinical and administrative support to health care team members and offers a variety of health care services individuals served.

Essential Responsibilities

General:

  • Coordinate and optimize clinician schedules to support efficient patient flow, including overbooks.

  • Manage patient and departmental communications (phone, mail, MyChart), ensuring timely clinician input, follow-up, and clear relay of instructions

  • Execute and coordinate care plan follow-ups, including prescriptions, referrals, tests, appointments, and EMR documentation

  • Conduct comprehensive patient rooming, including identity verification, intake assessments, vital signs, medical history, screenings, and visit documentation

  • Prepare patients and exam rooms for visits by ensuring proper setup, supplies, equipment, and orders are ready for the provider

  • Observe patient condition, report key findings or abnormal results to the provider, and ensure patient safety, comfort, and privacy

  • Perform clinical procedures and diagnostic tasks (e.g., specimen collection, point-of-care testing, EKGs, injections, wound care)

  • Manage prior authorizations, in-basket tasks, and administrative workflows to support clinic operations

  • Support population health initiatives, including outreach and preventive care screenings

  • Maintain medical equipment, sterilization processes, and a clean, well-stocked clinical environment

  • Provide patient education and facilitate communication with patients and families

  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR)

  • Assist with front desk functions and scheduling as needed

  • Apply Feedback Informed Treatment (FIT) practices as part of service delivery team and in alignment with Cascadia and program’s current level of FIT implementation.

  • Perform additional duties to support overall clinic operations

Regulatory & Compliance:

  • Comply with laws, regulations, policies, and procedures under which the program and company operate.

  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR); and maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation that ensures compliance with all agency policies and procedures and local, state, and federal regulations, and billing requirements

  • Assist in crisis situations as appropriate; follow protocols and procedures in coordination with the treatment team.

  • Respect and honor the rights and responsibilities of those served and demonstrate professional boundaries and ethics.

  • Understand safety regulations and evacuation procedures; participate in regular safety drills in compliance with program policies and procedures.

  • Complete assigned employee training in compliance with program and company requirements.

  • Provide guidance, support, and training to other staff in alignment with company mission and values.

  • Participate in all scheduled staff meetings, supervision sessions, and other departmental and company meetings.
