Unit Overview:

The Campus Microscopy & Imaging Facility (CMIF) serves as a core facility, providing confocal, light and electron microscopy service as well as live cell and multiphoton imaging capabilities for biological samples. CMIF also provides microscopy advice, education and instrument training for the research community. The highly experienced CMIF staff is committed to providing the research community with publication quality, high resolution images for us in manuscripts and grant applications. In accomplishing its mission, CMIF strives to facilitate access and use of several instruments dedicated to microscopic analysis, including live cell confocal, confocal microscopy, multiphoton imaging, light microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. Additionally, CMIF strives to provide staff expertise in the preparation of samples for microscopic visualization.

Job Summary Overview:

The CMIF Director will provide leadership and coordination of the Campus Microscopy and Imaging Facility, providing necessary and essential support to the research community at the university. The individual will work in consultation with the Senior Associate Vice President for Research Operations, and college/center leadership to coordinate the investments for and efficient utilization of specialized equipment, aid in the development of specialized research themes, and further the enhancement of OSU's research competitiveness and the expansion of OSU's extramural funding in the area of advanced microscopy and imaging.  Establishes and convenes a faculty advisory committee for input on facility equipment and services; faculty input is shared with the SAVP to inform decisions.

The director works closely with SAVP to develop the vision and strategic initiatives for the CMIF. Provides leadership and direction for the center's staff in establishing goals, objectives and priorities, and developing short-term and long-range plans. Oversees and manages overall operations, advising the SAVP on major and/or complex issues. Collaborates with campus partners to ensure consistent and seamless services are provided in meeting the research community's needs. Responsibilities also include supervision and management of the Center's staff, including performance management and identifying opportunities for professional development. Key partnerships include ERIK leaders, College Deans and Associate Deans, college research officers, and relevant centers and institutes, as well as researchers across campus.
