Job Overview

Great Lakes Cheese is seeking a Quality Assurance intern at our following locations: Fillmore, Wausau, Plymouth, and Manchester.

Great Lakes Cheese's Summer 2024 Intern Cohort will:

• Participate in a variety of business projects and opportunities as part of the GLC Intern Association,
• Participate in both personal and professional developmental workshops
• Participate and execute a community service project in alignment with GLC’s corporate social responsibility initiative.

All GLC interns are expected to:

• Perform any assignment or job task according to the stated safety policies and procedures
• Produce our products in a manner that exceeds the quality and value expectations of our customers and consumers by adhering to Good Manufacturing Practices, Policies and Procedures outlined in our Safe Quality Food Program.

This position is a paid internship.

Job Responsibilities

An overview of the projects for each location is listed below. 

 

Fillmore: Risk Assessment, SSOP Upgrades with Pictures, Data Analysis (Trends complaints etc.), Food Safety Culture Survey.

 

Plymouth: Validation of scrap rates in BOMs, validation of gray areas for scales, time study of leaker checks, validation of frequency of foreign material inspections on check lists,participate in a variety of business projects and opportunities as part of the GLC Intern Association.

 

Manchester: Identify ways to improve existing food safety and quality systems,develop and implement processes related to food safety and quality, create detailed work instructions related to manufacturing processes, learn and utilize systems related to food safety and quality (environmental monitoring, auditing, electronic quality records, etc.), learn and understand the basic food safety and quality control steps associated with our process.

 

Wausau: Perform testing, and collect, organize, and summarize related data for projects such as, but not limited to: Swabbing for food allergen protein residues on surfaces, validating metal detector capabilities to reject various sizes and types of metal,assessing the variability of in line scales,environmental monitoring for foodborne pathogens and indicator organisms.
 

Required Education and Experience

• Actively enrolled in or possessing a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Food Science, Chemistry, or a similarly related field.
• Only undergraduate students will be considered for this position.
• Minimum overall cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Must be legally authorized to work a company in the U.S. without sponsorship.

Preferred Education and Experience

• Problem solving skills.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Strong communication, presentation, and team skills.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Self-motivated with a high level of initiative, able to work well independently.

Working Conditions

• Work is performed in a lab setting.• Hair nets, ear plugs/muffs, hardhats, and/or safety glasses may be required.• Occasional exposure to industrial operations including: temperature extremes from approximately 35ºF to 100ºF; noise levels in excess of 85 dB; moisture and moving machinery.
