Job Summary

Nickol Global Solutions (NGS) is seeking a Communications Specialist operating remotely to produce all written documents for internal and external records and circulation for various projects around the world. Documents include Monthly Reports, Quarterly Reports, Annual Reports, Annual Work Plans, Grant Completion Reports, Success Stories, and Social Media posts. The Communications Specialist will report directly to the Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP) while taking technical direction from the respective department s’ designated point-of-contact (POC) where required.  

Requirements

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:  

The part-time report writer will draft quality success stories and reports that highlight the achievements and impact of various projects. The writer will utilize their journalism skills to create engaging, accurate, and compelling narratives that can be used for advocacy, communication, and reporting purposes. The Communications Specialist will collect his/her material from the relevant departments appointees to ensure content accuracy and timeous reporting. 


Responsibilities

Snapshots and Success Stories:

· Identify and document success stories from ongoing and completed projects. 

· When necessary, conduct interviews with project staff, key stakeholders, including farmers, women’s groups, local officials, and project beneficiaries to gather firsthand accounts and insights. (Note: a local Communications Officer will be assigned to provide this support).

· Write detailed, engaging success stories that showcase the positive impact of the projects on local people and their businesses.


Report Writing:

· Prepare and write comprehensive reports on the progress and outcomes of projects using USAID reporting templates.

· Ensure reports are well-structured, clear, and aligned with the project’s objectives and goals.

· Include relevant data, quotes, and case studies to provide a thorough understanding of the project’s impact.


Collaboration and Coordination:

· Work closely with the project team, including project managers, coordinators, and field staff, to gather necessary information and insights.

· Assist the local staff to identify reporting opportunities. 

· Coordinate with local partners and stakeholders to arrange interviews as needed.


Editing and Proofreading:

· Review and edit drafts to ensure they meet the project’s quality standards while adhering to USAID’s strict branding and reporting requirements.

· Proofread final documents to correct any formatting, grammatical, punctuation, or typographical errors.


Content Management:

· Maintain a repository of success stories, reports, and other written materials for easy access and reference on a SharePoint platform.

· Ensure all documents and photographs are well-organized and properly archived.


Qualifications:

Education - Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Communications, International Relations, or a related field.

Experience - Minimum of 5 years experience in journalism, report writing, or a related field.

Minimum of 3 years experience  as principle writer for USAID funded agricultural development projects.


Skills:

· Excellent writing and storytelling skills.

· Strong research and analytical skills.

· Ability to conduct interviews and gather qualitative data.

· Proficiency in English; knowledge of Arabic or Kurdish is an asset.

· Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

· Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.

· Strong Microsoft and document layout skills. 


Deliverables:

· Monthly internal reporting to head office communications team.

· On completion of key stages of program intervention, prepare snapshots or success stories highlighting key achievements and impacts of projects.

· Quarterly and annual reports detailing the progress, challenges, and outcomes of the projects using USAID’s standard reporting templates, formatting, and branding.

· Complete annual work plan, annual MEL plan, and various donor requested reports as required.

· Regular updates and summaries of project activities for internal and external stakeholders.


Work Environment

Location: Remote, with possible travel.

Hours: Part-time, approximately 10 hours per week.

Reporting: Project DCOP and NGS management team.
