Role Summary
The Principal Solutions Architect role is a subject matter expert in the design and implementation of technology solutions. As an individual contributor this role exercises considerable latitude and initiative in defining strategies for acquiring, designing, and governing technology solutions, as well as solving technical, process, and governance issues.
Key Duties
- Define the long-term strategy for design, implementation, and documentation of technologies, products, and/or systems in use throughout the airline.
- Communicate high-level technical guidance to maintain current technology standards and guidelines; recommend modifications where needed; and ensure new efforts fit within the overall strategies.
- Explore, evaluate, recommend, and act as the lead subject matter in emerging technology trends and proof-of-concept efforts.
- Steers technical architecture assessments of potential technologies.
- Develop and influence decisions across company and several levels up for improvements to technology architectures, including cost analyses.
- Guide solution cost models for economic evaluations.
- Head reviews of solutions to ensure architectures are sound and fit the technical strategies of the organization.
- Create and implement technology standards, methodologies, processes, and guidelines.
- Provide key inputs to RFPs from the technology perspective and input to the final recommendation.
- Author solution designs, methodologies, processes, and IT technical guidelines.
Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills
Required
- 7 years of experience in solution architecture or related area.
- Bachelor’s degree, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.
- Experience evaluating and providing assessments of commercial and custom solution architectures.
- Experience creating and leading policy and governance efforts with respect to software development and technical infrastructure.
- Demonstrated experience architecting, implementing, and reviewing complex technology solutions.
- Experience evaluating RFPs from the technology perspective and providing recommendations.
- Proven experience in quickly learning new technologies and methodologies.
- Demonstrated ability in effectively communicating technical concepts to a wide variety of audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to identify, analyze, and solve complex business and technical challenges.
- High levels of curiosity, initiative, integrity, and flexibility.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Minimum age of 18.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
Preferred
- Experience with business requirements gathering/analysis techniques.
- Highly organized with a demonstrated systematic approach to carrying out assignments.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
- Experience producing proofs of concept with different technologies to accurately arrive at working solution to a defined opportunity.
- A broad set of experiences with different technical/software architectures.
- Deep background in one or more of the following areas: computing platforms (cloud, virtualization, etc.), application development, middleware platforms, or database management.

Starting Rate
Salary Range
$138,500 - $207,750 / yearBonus
Salary Details
Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Hawaiian/Horizon employees. Alaska/Hawaiian/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.
Note: We don’t typically hire at the top of the range.
