Your Specific Responsibilities:

• This position is a highly responsible school health position, assisting the School Health coordinator in planning, implementing, and evaluating the school health program.   This nurse will assume primary responsibility for the supervision of the Basic and Comprehensive School Health Programs, the Charter School Health program, the Teen Parent Program and supervise the HST-SES of the School Health Screening (Vision) Program.  Also, assumes management and supervisory responsibilities for school health program during School Health Coordinator’s absence. This position may serve clients that speak only Spanish, Creole, or other languages.  It may require performance of interpreter duties, if bilingual, or implementation of the Department’s Limited English Proficiency Plan.

 

• Supervision: Basic and Comprehensive Program Registered Nurses & the Health Support Technician -SES. Keeps monthly report statistics for Polk County Public School, School Health RNs.  Enters statistics into HMS monthly and ensures integrity of data. Monitors student immunization status to ensure compliance with mandated school immunization requirements. Serve as liaison between students, parent, school staff and physician to ensure student health.

 

• Plans workloads, workflow, deadlines, work objectives and time utilization with employees in the Basic, Comprehensive and Charter School programs.  Assigns and schedules charter school RNs as needed per revenue agreements. Ensures charter school compliance with agreements and staffing.

 

• Community Liaison: Serves as consultant with PCSB on individual school concerns as needed.

 

• Participates cooperatively with PCSB Health Services Manager & Mark Wilcox staff on School Health projects and serves as agency diabetic medical management coordinator. Represents the health department at the School Health Advisory Committee, Immunization Coalition and other committees as necessary and as requested by School Health Coordinator.  Serves as an advocate for school health. Coordinates, Develops and delivers education and trainings for Charter, Private Schools and Migrant Head Start partners/programs as requested.

 

• QI & Planning: Interprets the School Health Services Plan and School Nursing Standards to Health Department Staff, correlating the separate sets of standards for the nursing staff. Assesses staff development needs for school health program.  Plans, conducts, and coordinates continuing education programs for both Health Department and School Board staff members.  Plans and/or conducts on a regular basis staff/team meeting.  Develops and revises nursing procedures, completes surveys, studies and reports. Coordinates, Develops and delivers education and trainings for Charter, Private Schools and Migrant Head Start partners/programs as requested.
