About the role
Under general supervision, responsible for providing excellent customer service while ensuring the security, safety and well-being of all personnel, visitors and the premises. Immediately responds to emergencies to provide necessary assistance and protects the institution's assets relative to theft, fire, and other safety issues. Enforces the institution's regulations pertaining to parking of vehicles on controlled property.
- Screens all persons entering the facilities of the University for proper identification.
- Through observation and patrol, safeguard institutional property, identify security issues and enforce institutional rules and regulations.
- In emergencies, facilitate the orderly evacuation of the buildings and structures.
- Secures premises and personnel by patrolling property to include monitoring surveillance equipment, inspecting buildings, equipment, and access points, unlocking/securing buildings, classrooms and non-public areas, and permitting entry.
- Prevents losses and damage by reporting irregularities and informing violators of policy and procedures.
- Controls vehicle traffic by directing drivers.
- Provides security for the campus/special events and conducts foot patrols of buildings and grounds to ensure personal, building, and equipment security.
- Provides customer service to the public through actions such as Safe Walk escorts and motorist assistance; provides information and direction to students, employees, and visitors.
- Controls and monitors access by checking permits on parked vehicles and issues visitor permits as needed.
- Responds to various reports, alarms and/or observed behaviors; assesses situation, notifies Communications Center and supervisor, and determines appropriate action.
- Completes reports by recording observations, information, occurrences, and surveillance activities as directed.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
- Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to exhibit great customer service and willingness to interact with the public.
- Ability to make decisions that deal with uncertainty and require judgment and objectivity.
- Ability to remain calm and exhibit emotional control, integrity and professionalism.
- Ability to write complete and concise reports.
EDUCATION:
- High school diploma or GED is required.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION:
- Must possess a valid Texas drivers license and be eligible to drive a University owned and/or leased motor vehicle.
This position may require the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure per Texas EO-GA-48.

Dental - Three dental insurance plan options are available for employees and their families through Delta Dental Insurance Company, two PPOs and one dental HMO plan. Both PPO plans allow employees to choose any licensed dentist.
Vision - Fully insured Vision Care benefits are offered by Superior Vision Services. Two vision plan options that offer either standard or enhanced vision benefits.
Disability - Employees can enroll in the Disability Insurance which provides income if a non-work related illness or injury prevents you from working.
FSAs - Employees can enroll in flexible spending accounts (FSAs) to set aside money from earnings before taxes for qualifying dependent day care expenses or out-of-pocket health care expenses.
Retirement - Employees are eligible for either the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) or the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP). TRS is a defined benefit retirement plan which UT Health matches employee contributions. ORP is for eligible faculty staff employees.
