Position Information

Aurora is the most diverse city in Colorado. This is in great part due to our growing immigrant population. Many who find their way to our city services want their children to explore extracurricular activities that will help them excel in their academic studies and they are drawn to the study of music for this reason.

We are looking for a keyboard instructor who would be available to teach beginning keyboard classes for up to 10 youths or adults in a classroom setting. Our classes are programmed quarterly with current classes on Monday and Friday evenings. Classes are held in our studio at the Aurora Public Library Central Location.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Instructor must be able to understand and teach musical notations, basic symbols, music theory.
  • Must have an ability to teach children to play the desired instrument for the program.
  • Prepare and deliver quality training sessions, assess student’s skill levels, monitor student progress, and provide motivation when needed.
  • Demonstrate good ergonomics and practices to help students learn how to play without fatigue or injury.
  • Must be able to manage a classroom of young students while monitoring skill levels of each student.
  • Timely and clear verbal and written communication skills are required. Communication with parents and students is needed regarding student progress and behavior, and additional communication of class cancellations due to illness or other unforeseen circumstances. Communication with library and cultural support staff is required regarding classroom space, class supply needs and class scheduling.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
