ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PURPOSE
Supports production and other processes in a team-based manufacturing environment. Performs activities in a variety of cross-functional areas including production, planning and control, total quality management, systems, manufacturing, material management, and process reengineering. The incumbent may facilitate self-directed work teams, provide training “core skill” areas to team and peers, and interact with internal and external customers with respect to product planning, problem resolution, and process improvement.
POSITION DEMANDS
This position requires the following minimum qualifications:

A Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial, Manufacturing, Production Engineering or another engineering discipline.

Entry-level to two (2) years experience in a manufacturing and/or manufacturing engineering discipline in a position of responsibility.

Working knowledge of Scheduling Techniques: PERT, GANTT, Critical Path Analysis; Industrial Engineering: process control / facility analysis; Lean Manufacturing (Just-in-Time concept): flowcharting, SMED, inventory reduction, 5S; trend analysis; problem identification / solving techniques; NASSCO MTT, and Project Management.

Thorough knowledge of project management methods; estimating, scheduling, cost accounting, and management of subcontractors; knowledge of lean manufacturing principles desired

Good verbal and written communications skills. Effective reports are a key deliverable of this individual’s activities.
Requires ability to physically commute to various areas of the shipyard including but not limited to shipboard activities. Must be capable of climbing ladders and transiting through manholes and other confined, congested spaces. Physical dexterity must allow for bending and reaching. Must maintain mental alertness and all safety requirements, particularly when transiting in production areas. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is occasionally exposed to dust, welding/burning fumes, and smoke. Must be able to spend up to 25% of time in an outdoor shipyard environment in all climates. The noise level is usually low to moderate in office environments and moderate to noisy in production environments 70% of the time. Production noise may include sirens, horns, chipping, and hammering.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
Works primarily in a teamed environment and under the guidance and supervision of senior department staff. Assists project teams with the evaluation, selection and application of engineering techniques and principles. Prepares progress and status reports and work is periodically reviewed by the Manager of Industrial Engineering.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Project manager/leader for extensive projects in all stages of new construction shipbuilding and repair; responsible for the planning and organizing projects to ensure adherence with production schedule cost and quality

Supports continuous improvement / process analysis initiatives with regard to cost, quality, cycle time, and safety to attain future goals.

Plans, schedules and monitors team activities

Reviews documentation and identifies deficiencies and potential problems

Provides expertise in quality and process improvement techniques; identify problem areas and initiate corrective action

Ensures compliance with environmental initiatives

Monitors performance to safety policies

Coordinates production projects with other production supervisors, trades, quality assurance and management

Manage team members for duration of project(s)

Complies with organization and company administrative procedures
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work occurs in both an outdoor shipyard environment and in an office setting. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus. Regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, operate computer keyboard and controls, and communicate verbally and in writing. Requires ability to commute physically to various areas of the shipyard including but not limited to shipboard activities. Work at heights; position requires the ability to walk on scaffolding and work at heights aboard vessels under construction or repair. Must be capable of ascending/descending stairs or ladders
