The Team:

The Oil Tanker Shipping team is a critical component of the CI (Commodity Insights) Shipping Analytics and Research business line. This team is dedicated to developing and maintaining high-quality market intelligence and research flow for S&P Global Commodity Insight Freight Analytics products. We pride ourselves on delivering actionable insights that empower our clients to make informed decisions in a rapidly changing market landscape.


Responsibilities and Impact:

As a Senior Principal Research Analyst, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction of our tanker freight research initiatives. Your expertise will be crucial in leading the development and enhancement of sophisticated models and reports that our Tanker Freight Research Analysts rely on. You will also be responsible for mentoring and developing junior analysts, providing them with the guidance and support needed to excel in their roles. Additionally, you will oversee the development of our Tanker Freight Rate Forecast, ensuring that it aligns with the methodologies established by our dry FRF team. Your work will directly influence our understanding of current and future trends in crude oil and refined products, liquid bulk trade flows, and oil tanker freight markets through advanced data-driven analytics and comprehensive demand and supply models.

  • Market Intelligence Development: Lead the creation and maintenance of market intelligence and research flow for S&P Global Commodity Insights Freight Analytics products, ensuring the highest quality and relevance of data.
  • Advanced Market Analysis: Develop advanced market scenarios and actionable insights for freight markets and trade flows, specifically focusing on liquid bulk commodities, including crude oil and refined products.
  • Client Visibility: Drive visibility for S&P Global Commodity Insights’ clients into the dynamics of physical trade in liquid bulk and freight markets, enhancing their decision-making capabilities.
  • In-Depth Trend Analysis: Provide thorough analysis, analytical commentary, and interpretation of current and future trends in liquid bulk commodities and freight markets, including supply and demand analysis based on the Global Shipbuilding Market and Maritime Regulatory Framework.
  • Effective Communication: Communicate insights to clients through a variety of channels, including published reports, presentations, calls, emails, and direct meetings, ensuring clarity and actionable takeaways.
  • Mentorship and Development: Oversee the training and development of Research Analysts working on the FRF Tanker Project, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Original Research and Data Mining: Conduct original research and data mining to identify interesting and potentially marketable findings in our data, enhancing our research capabilities and product offerings.
  • Documentation of Research Processes: Establish and document research processes to create internal standards and best practices, ensuring consistency and quality across the team.
  • Sales Collaboration: Collaborate with Sales teams to analyze reports and effectively communicate insights to customers, enhancing client relationships and driving business growth.
  • Project Management: Manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously, ensuring timely completion and alignment with team goals and objectives.

Compensation/Benefits Information: (This section is only applicable to US candidates)

S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $100,000 to $120,000. Final base salary for this role will be based on the individual’s geographic location, as well as experience level, skill set, training, licenses and certifications.

In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan. This role is not eligible for additional compensation such as an annual incentive bonus or sales commission plan.
