Where you fit in

The environmental team maintains Shell’s license to operate both within and outside Shell.  Our environmental compliance is the single most important aspect of our operations as viewed by the community and regulators. Shell has over 4,500 compliance opportunities and maintains 45 permits with 450 conditions of approval for the air permit and 100 conditions of approval for the water permits alone. Capacity, education, and experience cannot be substituted. Compliance and assurance are the keys to maintaining our license to operate.

The Environmental Engineer Air Quality supports Shell Polymers Monaca Environmental Department’s air compliance programs, the leak detection and repair (LDAR) program, continuous emissions monitoring (CEMS) and reporting, internal and external environmental reporting, assurance, and compliance, proactive technical monitoring programs for air, and toxic release inventory reporting. 

Accountabilities

  • Ensure all reporting deadlines for environmental reporting are met

  • Establish proactive monitoring programs to ensure compliance with our permit limits

  • Collect, reconcile and quality check environmental data to ensure delivery of timely quality environmental data reporting on the Shell Group level

  • Analyze environmental data and prepare material to populate reports on environmental performance

  • Prepare material, data, and records to support internal and external audits and reports

  • Strive for efficiencies and cost savings through use of automated reporting tools

  • Environmental air quality data management experience

  • Lead and participate in environmental incident investigations

  • Manage environmental data using IT systems, and collaborate with Operations and maintenance in support of permit and regulatory compliance

  • Support unit operations and maintenance activities including outages, turn arounds, etc.

  • Compliance, assurance, tracking and audit/inspection support

  • Assist with Management of Change, pre-startup safety reviews, incident reporting programs, incident investigations

  • Sample data reporting, trending, assessing gaps and proactively looking for gaps and filling them

What we need from you

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent at least 5-years’ experience in the chemicals and manufacturing industry

  • With at least 5 years’ experience in the air regulatory and environmental field including compliance preferably in the downstream field

  • Proven knowledge and experience with Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency regulations

  • Proven experience with field compliance support for air permit requirements (permit requirements >4,500 items)

  • Experience in environmental reporting support (e.g. greenhouse gas, toxic release inventory, all federal and state reporting for air programs associated with a major petrochemical facility, annual inventories)

  • Experience with Air Engineering permits, reporting and program support

  • Ability to manage, direct and report environmental incidents from duty phone calls

  • Ability to communicate written and verbal, both internally and externally.

  • Experience with Leak detection, repair and other air program support (e.g. experience with air programs such as benzene waste, maximum achievable control technology, miscellaneous organic chemicals, turbines compliance and reporting, Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems, and Title V permit compliance, assurance

  • Proven experience with data QA/QC and air environmental performance monitoring and reporting such as Greenhouse Gas, emission inventories, Acid Rain Program

  • Experience in Environmental media sampling

  • Familiarity with Environmental Management Systems Excellent data management, reporting and presentation skills and ability to integrate data across different platforms

  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines with a crowded and often changing business agendas

  • High level of acc
